Our Violent Ends (These Violent Delights, #2) by Chloe Gong | ARC Review

Shanghai is under siege in this captivating and searingly romantic sequel to These Violent Delights, which New York Times bestselling author Natasha Ngan calls “deliciously dark.”

The year is 1927, and Shanghai teeters on the edge of revolution.

After sacrificing her relationship with Roma to protect him from the blood feud, Juliette has been a girl on the warpath. One wrong move, and her cousin will step in to usurp her place as the Scarlet Gang’s heir. The only way to save the boy she loves from the wrath of the Scarlets is to have him want her dead for murdering his best friend in cold blood. If Juliette were actually guilty of the crime Roma believes she committed, his rejection might sting less.

Roma is still reeling from Marshall’s death, and his cousin Benedikt will barely speak to him. Roma knows it’s his fault for letting the ruthless Juliette back into his life, and he’s determined to set things right—even if that means killing the girl he hates and loves with equal measure.

Then a new monstrous danger emerges in the city, and though secrets keep them apart, Juliette must secure Roma’s cooperation if they are to end this threat once and for all. Shanghai is already at a boiling point: The Nationalists are marching in, whispers of civil war brew louder every day, and gangster rule faces complete annihilation. Roma and Juliette must put aside their differences to combat monsters and politics, but they aren’t prepared for the biggest threat of all: protecting their hearts from each other.

I am an empty shell of my former self 😃
Chloe you’re paying for my therapy bills ❤

This is the 2nd time in my life that I’ve been this heartbroken over a book. Literally it was a full out sob-fest for me reading this.

I don’t think I will ever truly recover and really I should’ve known better but of course I foolishly hoped. My heart has been stomped on, torn into pieces and thrown into an explosion. I actually wasn’t expecting to be this heartbroken like WHY did I go ahead and fall in love with every single one of these characters?? I was literally setting myself up for pain * sobs * But oh, isn’t that the beauty of reading? To fall in love only to have your heart broken.

Just the way I got trolled so badly, like some of the events actually had me thinking otherwise but oh no no🤡 I am now and forever depressed™

I can literally imagine this was how Chloe was when she wrote OVE:

The monster of Shanghai who?? I only know Miss Chloe Gong * sobbing *

(Warning: There will be spoiler from the 1st book, These Violent Delights!!)

═══.·:·.☽✧ ❀ ✧☾.·:·.═══

“A rose is a rose, even by another name. But we choose whether we will offer beauty to the world, or if we will use our thorns to sting.”

1927 Shanghai and the city is at the brink of complete chaos. Sightings of monsters have re-emerged, the Communists have grown more bold, and the two gangs ruling the city have gone at each other out for more blood than usual.

Meanwhile, Juliette Cai is having to watch her every step in the face of Tyler–her cousin just waiting to find reason to declare Juliette a traitor and become heir to the Scarlet Gang–and watch for Roma Montagov who is out for revenge after the death of Marshall Seo. Oh and also worry about the appearances of monsters and state of the city. Life is stressful for Juliette 😦

I won’t go into anymore details of the plot because ✨spoilers✨ BUT OMG THE WAY IT GRIPPED ME FROM THE START?? It took me a while to get into TVD but this!! Literally there wasn’t a moment in this book I didn’t love. I was a ball of anxiety the whole time. of course my heart was also dying because of the wholesomeness and very few precious scenes And like I actually dropped my expectations for this because I thought and feared it wouldn’t be that good but oh how very, very wrong I was.

The characters were so much more fleshed out here?? I already liked them before in TVD but I was just so so in love with them all here to the point where I’d straight up be PRAYING they’d survive😭 Benedikt, Marshall, Kathleen… I didn’t think it was possible to adore them all so much, my heart is so full of love. And don’t even get me started on the two stars who went from enemies-to-lovers-to-enemies in TVD sdfsfgs THE ANGST.

“She was not fighting for love. She was protecting her own, everyone else’s be damned.”

THIS QUEEN. Did I believe it to be possible for Juliette to be even more of a queen than she already was? No. Did it happen anyways? HELL YES. All the pain she had to go through, making Roma believe that she had actually killed Marshall and subjecting herself to his hatred * sobbing * And it was all to protect him and the city. And then also having to deal with that bastard Tyler along with her own family and people having not so much faith in her ugh. Juliette hiding away any signs of weakness because people were always watching was so heartbreaking. She couldn’t give her people any more reason to doubt her then they already do. Kathleen being the only one she could be herself with, always there for her🥺

You know that moment when you have so much to say that you don’t know how to write it all out? That’s me right now. Just know if you loved Juliette before, you will definitely love her even more now.

“And maybe he was a coward. He was a coward who wouldn’t stop loving a wicked thing.”

ROMA, MY LOVE. Oh my god, he’s such a cinnamon roll that must be protected at all costs. The hatred and love he felt towards Juliette hurt my soul. Even after seeing Juliette “kill” Marshall, a small part of him believed that there was more to it AND HOW RIGHT THAT FEELING WAS. Of course, Juliette tried as hard as ever to extinguish that feeling but still sdfdgsgds THE ANGST BETWEEN THE TWO.

“Only he knew if he screamed I hate you, what he really meant was I love you. I still love you so much that I hate you for it.”

Enemies-to-lovers-to-enemies at its peak😩
The first book’s romance wasn’t a really big focus BUT HERE?? God, the tension was literally killing me. So many times my heart stopped because of these two😭 The two heirs of rival gangs who dared to love one another ❤

(credit: @polarts_)

“And if you are gunned down because you want to fight a war that doesn’t belong to you, I will never forgive this city. I will tear it down to pieces, and you will be to blame!

When the ship is in a heated argument and then one of them breaks and yells “because I love you!” sdfsfgsgs MY HEART I LOVED THIS SCENE SO MUCH IT WAS EVERYTHING I WANTED. (view spoiler)[The only crime was that IT TOOK SO LONG for the confession😭 like the last 70 pages?? that is just too cruel (hide spoiler)]

The amount of pain I was in during this whole book like not only did I have suffer watching Roma and Juliette BUT ALSO BENEDIKT WAS SO BROKEN IT HURT. Believing Marshall to be dead completely destroyed him and the whole time throughout I was just screaming “he’s alive Benedikt, he’s alive!!” That was honestly just true torture knowing Marshall was alive. Benedikt being so reckless about his life like no Ben what are you doing😭

And meanwhile, there’s Marshall — AKA MY PRECIOUS BEAN — who missed everyone, but of course Ben the most🥺 The two being apart pained me so much, like why can’t everyone just be happy?? Is that too much to ask for??
Stan BenMars forever ❤

(credit: @Kirisy_art)

Also let it be remembered that Benedikt is and forever will be the only sensible one of the whole group. (view spoiler)[He literally stopped each and everyone of them (in terms of Roma, Juliette, and Marshall) from trying to kill themselves please he really got sick of the self-sacrificing😭 (hide spoiler)]

“Keep fighting for love. It is worth it.”

ALSO LET ME JUST SCREAM ABOUT JULIETTE AND MARSHALL’S FRIENDSHIP. It was so beautiful, sweet, and just everything omg I loved it so so so much. Their banter was like one between siblings and the way my heart was about to burst😭 IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL. Literally all the relationships between the characters were so so amazing, I can’t choose a favourite it’s impossible.

“And yet wasn’t that the root of all hatred? Wasn’t that what made it so vicious? There was never a reason. Never a good one. Never a fair one.”

Kathleen Lang, please marry me. She’s literally such a genuine and kind-hearted person just how?? Such a morally good character and the development she went through by the end of this book???🥺 I was actually about to cry. Also, Juliette and her just have the most wholesome friendship ever, there was moment between them that made me so emotional, get a friend like Kathleen😭

Also this is totally off-topic but I’m WHEEZING at how I said at the end of my These Violent Delights review how my loyalty will forever lie with the Scarlet Gang… HAHA no the Scarlet Gang can go to hell 🙂
Correction: My loyalty forever lies with Roma and Juliette ❤ They are true leaders.

↓ MAJOR SPOILERS FOR OVE IN THIS SECTION ↓

═══.·:·.☽✧ ❀ ✧☾.·:·.═══

“Keep fighting for love. Juliette had wanted to be selfish, had wanted to run. But this was their love—violent and bloody. This city was their love. They couldn’t deny their upbringings as the heirs of Shanghai, as two pieces of a throne. What was left of their love if they rejected that? How could they live with themselves, look at each other, knowing they had been presented a choice and gone against who they were at the core.”

I legit can’t even write their names without tears blurring my vision. LIKE I’M ACTUALLY STRUGGLING WRITING THIS RIGHT NOW TRYING TO SEE. It’s so heartbreaking my heart physically hurts. All they wanted was to live happy, alone and free from the blood feud ohmygod AND THEY EVEN HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO RUN AWAY, but oh Roma and Juliette were too noble for their own good and I both love and hate them for that. They just wanted to love each other freely. They just wanted peace, and they couldn’t even have that. I’M SOBBING. They gave up their lives for the city that caused them so much pain. PLEASE HOW ARE ROMA AND JULIETTE SO GOOD??

And like obviously it shouldn’t have been a surprise they were going to die considering it was a retelling of R&J. Like even the foreshadowing made it obvious BUT I STILL FOOLISHLY HOPED CHLOE WOULD SPARE OUR HEARTS. It wouldn’t have been an accurate retelling if she hadn’t followed through BUT STILL😭😭 It pains me so so much and I just want to crawl into a hole and die because those two so deserved all the happiness in this world.

I WANTED BENMARS AND ROMAJULIETTE TO LIVE NEXT TO EACH OTHER, HAVE KIDS, AND GROW OLD TOGETHER HAPPY THIS ISN’T FAIR, THIS PAIN IS ILLEGAL. I love that Roma and Juliette got to at least die together holding hands and knowing that both of their cousins were dead at least but omg I will never recover from this. And the gangs were disbanded because of their deaths so at least that’s something😭

They were only married for one day before they died * sobbing * Chloe you’re too cruel.

“In this life they had been born enemies. In this life they had blood for miles between them, wide enough to run a river, deep enough to forge a valley. In the next, maybe there would be peace.”

═══.·:·.☽✧ ❀ ✧☾.·:·.═══

This review was a chaotic mess, so you can tell just how much this book destroyed me. It’s been months since a book made me feel this way and I don’t know if I should be thanking or cursing Chloe. Either way, STAN THIS QUEEN FOR MAKING ME FEEL LIKE THIS. I will forever remember each of these lovable characters and absolutely can’t wait for Foul Lady Fortune which hopefully won’t break me as much as OVE did. lies, the masochist in me hopes for that

Now, time to go through the stages of grief… except in this case, I’ll never get to the 5th✌

Thank you Simon & Schuster Canada for sending me an ARC in exchange for an honest review! All quotes in this review are subject to change upon release date.

Emilia will be tested in every way as she seeks a series of magical objects that will unlock the clues of her past and the answers she craves…

One sister.
Two sinful princes.
Infinite deception with a side of revenge… Welcome to Hell.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author of Stalking Jack the Ripper Kerri Maniscalco comes the sizzling, sweepingly romantic sequel to Kingdom of the Wicked!

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This was definitely a character driven book and I was here for it all the way.

^^ basically Emilia in KotC cackles

“Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven.”

After the betrayals and shocking revelations in Kingdom of the Wicked, Emilia is even more determined to find her sister’s murderer—no matter what bargains she must make… even if it means doing the forbidden.

With all of that, she must also deal with her conflicted feelings towards a certain hot demon prince. Is it lust? More lies? Or something more? Either way, Emilia must not fall for his charms and demonic influence.

But I mean, who can resist a demon prince??? certainly not me

Credit: @morganaOanagrom

“I may have been foolish before, but, thank the goddess, I was learning quickly.”

Okay but like Emilia was such a queen in this book. I loved her already in KotW BUT HERE??? Her character development was spectacular sdfgdfs my love literally went📈📈 She’s not as naïve as she was in the 1st book and now is soo cunning with her schemes, it makes me cackle in delight.

And after that ending??? No words will ever be able to express how hyped I am to see certain events play out. Emilia is on a very intriguing path and I definitely can’t say I don’t love it. For so long, Emilia’s been struggling with doing what’s right and avenging her sister—doing all of that alone. With demons everywhere. In Hell.

I don’t know how this girl’s able to deal with all of that and not lose her mind. Emilia needs a hug🥺

“Every villain thinks themselves the hero. And vice versa. In truth, there’s a little villain and hero in each of us. Depending on the circumstances.”

Oh Wrath, how my love grew for you but also declined. There were so many precious and wholesome moments between Wrath and Emilia omg it made me swoooon. And then Emilia has the audacity to say she wishes her “real life” was a romance novel- pain That hit hard😭

Like Wrath taking care of Emilia when she was suffering from hypothermia?? Wrath feeding Emilia chocolate-covered berries?? I’M JEALOUS.

But unfortunately, I do have to say that Wrath disgusted me at one point in the novel iykyk and though he learned from those mistakes and went to great extent to redeem himself—apologizing and following without question orders given by Emilia, I don’t 100% forgive him. It’ll probably take awhile tbh, but hopefully the 3rd book will clear up all of that for me.

“Fate may deal its hand, try encouraging our path or intervene, but we are ultimately free to choose our own destiny. Never doubt that.”

The new characters interactions that were in this book!! I absolutely adored it. Anir and Emilia’s friendship was so sweet ugh I love them so much. The training and conversations they had together were amazingg, but Fauna and Emilia’s conversations were definitely god tier – omg the things they said wheeze

The best interactions though were the ones between Emilia and the other Princes of Hell. I wish we could’ve learned and seen more of them :(( Like for a book set in Hell, they barely made much appearances and the three that we did get to see… were pretty brief, so that was a little disappointing.

Pride intrigues me so much, there’s definitely more to him than meets the eye. The same goes for Envy and maybe even Gluttony sdfsfsgfs I really want to know their true motives like they’re such interesting characters ughh the questions I have are killing me. Even with these princes not appearing as much as I hoped, AT LEAST I GOT TO SEE A DRUNK ENVY. Now that is something I’ll never forget anytime soon.

Anyways next book – petition for more Princes of Hell.

“All legends contain fragments of truth.”

I’m proud to say that I guessed one of the major plot twists yes ik practically everyone guessed it too but shhh let me savor this !! THE OTHER PLOT TWIST THOUGH??? I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING. AND THEN KERRI ENDING IT THAT WAY??? That is so cruel sobbing I flipped the page expecting there to be another page and then see “Acknowledgements” staring back at me-

We thought the ending of KotW was cruel?? laughs She definitely showed us what “cruel” really is. I’m in pain knowing that we have an agonizing year ahead of us to see how this concludes.

I wish I could’ve given this 5 stars – especially with how excited I was for KotC – but I can’t deny that I didn’t love it as much as I did with KotW. And like I’m always a sucker for romance, which is exactly what this had more of than the 1st book yet I still love KotW more. I’m thinking it might be the mood I’m currently in, but this just didn’t give me the same feelings I got with the first book. Of course, I definitely still enjoyed this and am so ready for the next book!

Anyways, let the suffering begin😃✌

All These Bodies by Kendare Blake | ARC Review

Sixteen bloodless bodies. Two teenagers. One impossible explanation.

Summer 1958—a string of murders plagues the Midwest. The victims are found in their cars and in their homes—even in their beds—their bodies drained, but with no blood anywhere.

September 19- the Carlson family is slaughtered in their Minnesota farmhouse, and the case gets its first lead: 15-year-old Marie Catherine Hale is found at the scene. She is covered in blood from head to toe, and at first she’s mistaken for a survivor. But not a drop of the blood is hers.

Michael Jensen, son of the local sheriff, yearns to become a journalist and escape his small-town. He never imagined that the biggest story in the country would fall into his lap, or that he would be pulled into the investigation, when Marie decides that he is the only one she will confess to.

As Marie recounts her version of the story, it falls to Michael to find the truth: What really happened the night that the Carlsons were killed? And how did one girl wind up in the middle of all these bodies?

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I am officially spooked™

“All these bodies without blood.”

Our narrator is a 17-year old future journalist named Michael who recounts his view of The Bloodless Murders case. The one person at the scene of the crime declares that they’ll only tell their story to him and him only — for some unknown reason.

These murders have been terrorizing the whole country and now the case of the century is at the hands of Michael. He just needs to prove that Marie – the suspect – was only the accomplice and the true murderer is still out there. Easy.

Except… sometimes the facts aren’t as easy as they’re made it out to be and Michael soon discovers that.

“Tell the truth and shame the devil. I always thought that would be easy. But what do you do when the truth that you’re faced with also happens to be impossible?”

Michael as a narrator was… interesting to say the least. I’m impressed at how he was able to separate his emotions from the horrors he saw at times like wow I could never.

But also sometimes he could be such an idiot like if someone was literally pointing a gun at you and about to shoot you — when you manage to get away the first thing you do is tell the cops/parents right??? MICHAEL DIDNT DO THAT🤡 and its not like he was threatened or anything by them, he just decided not to tell anyone?? * sigh *

That was probably the only really stupid decision there well that and him wanting to break a murderer out of prison

I must admit that one thing I did find done well was the murder mystery being pretty spooky and interesting — but at the same time, it was also kind of boring?? I don’t know if that makes sense but that’s how I felt. It was really easy to guess who the culprit was and this is coming from someone who sucks at guessing that.

And the ending to it all was really underwhelming to be honest. That ending didn’t reveal everything clearly and actually left me with more questions than answers.

Anyways overall this was pretty decent. I’ve read way better mysteries but this wasn’t bad.

❂ October TBR ❂

Happy October, my fellow bookworms!!🎃

I know I disappeared for the millionth time but oh wow how I didn’t expect school to be so hectic the first month😔 September was just me focusing so much of my time on school and when I did have free time, I’d watch anime and read mangas. Oh but how I miss reading books.

I’m still in my slump which is nothing new😭 but THIS MONTH I WILL FORCE MYSELF OUT OF THIS 3 MONTH LONG SLUMP IF ITS THE LAST THING I DO😤

So I’m going with a very ambitious TBR hehe

The Bronzed Beasts – Ever since the ending of The Silvered Serpents, I’VE NEEDED THIS BOOK LIKE I NEED AIR. I’m so scared, I need my babies to be okay and happy😭 Let’s see if I remain unscathed by the end of this book. And I’m gonna be buddy reading this so we’ll suffer together xoxo <33

Kingdom of the Cursed – This has been one of my highly anticipated reads ever since this was announced to be in drafting (aka even before Kingdom of the Wicked came out). IM SO HYPED TO READ THIS. and maybe, just maybe… this will be the book to save me from this cursed slump

Starsight – The 3rd book, Cytonic, is coming out next month so you better believe that I’m reading this before that. Everyone I now keeps talking about the ending of Starsight and I’m terrified😭 but at least I’ll only have to wait a month rather than 2 years like so many others did😂

Elantris – Another Sanderson book I must read. I started it back in August but because I was in a slump and didn’t want that to ruin the experience of this (because the book’s like really interesting), so I took a break. Now it’s time to read this once again😌

All These Bodies – I originally didn’t plan on reading this but I got a physical ARC as a surprise so now I definitely have to😂 It looks so creepy and I do enjoy mysteries so I can’t wait to see how this turns out!

Dark Rise – Another physical ARC I got AND I’M SO HAPPY BECAUSE I’VE BEEN SO EXCITED FOR THIS BOOK. Like the main character is named Will and the love interest is James??? And it’s set in London, England?? I’m getting TID vibes and I’m sooo hyped.

When Night Breaks – Another book I’m really hoping won’t disappoint!! I got an eARC of Where Dreams Descends and absolutely adored the book. The cliffhanger was too cruel sdfdsfsgs I really need answers. Also Jack better get a happy ending.

A Shadow in the Ember – My feelings are conflicted on this one… I used to be super excited for this but these last few months my excitement died down and I’ve grown to dislike the author, especially after certain events a few months ago. I have no idea what to feel, but JLA is definitely no longer a favourite author of mine.

The Hawthorne Legacy – I saw so many mixed reviews for THL and now I’m worried😭 I loved The Inheritance Games, so if I don’t enjoy this, it’ll be so heartbreaking * scared * but other than that worry I NEED MY HAWTHORNE BROTHERS.

I can’t believe its come to the point where I find reading 9 books in a month a lot💀 I miss my old self who could read so much haha * cry *

Anyways, I’m going to kick this reading slump out of my life and hopefully love every one of these books😎

Gild (The Plated Prisoner, #1)by Raven Kennedy | Review

The fae abandoned this world to us. And the ones with power rule.

Gold.

Gold floors, gold walls, gold furniture, gold clothes. In Highbell, in the castle built into the frozen mountains, everything is made of gold.

Even me.

King Midas rescued me. Dug me out of the slums and placed me on a pedestal. I’m called his precious. His favored. I’m the woman he Gold-Touched to show everyone that I belong to him. To show how powerful he is. He gave me protection, and I gave him my heart. And even though I don’t leave the confines of the palace, I’m safe.

Until war comes to the kingdom and a deal is struck.

Suddenly, my trust is broken. My love is challenged. And I realize that everything I thought I knew about Midas might be wrong.

Because these bars I’m kept in, no matter how gilded, are still just a cage. But the monsters on the other side might make me wish I’d never left.

The myth of King Midas reimagined. This compelling adult fantasy series is as addictive as it is unexpected. With romance, intrigue, and danger, the gilded world of Orea will grip you from the very first page.

Please Note: This book contains explicit content and darker elements, including mature language, violence, and non-consensual sex. It is not intended for anyone under 18 years of age. This is book one in a series.

Rating: 2 out of 5.

All these disgusting sexist pig-headed men can go to hell 🙂

Literally so many times I had to put the book down and stop reading because of the disturbing scenes like wow does this have all the trigger warnings out there. I knew this was going to be dark, but ahaha I wasn’t expecting this💀 This is definitely adult. Anyone who plans to read this—make sure to look at the trigger warnings and prepare yourself.

I was debating over my rating for awhile but then I realized that while I was angry understatement over a lot of things that happened in here, I didn’t completely hate this. I mean I was supposed to be angry, anyone would with the terrible events and characters in Gild. It is hard to rate this though because of all the abuse that happens in here, and so obviously I didn’t enjoy those parts. Unfortunately for majority of the book, things like that happen which I hated and because of that I just really can’t give this a higher rating. But I can see that the author is setting up everything and Auren’s character is definitely going to develop from here on out.

“Down here, life is dark and lonely.”

In the land of Orea, there lies six kingdoms. King Midas, a disgusting pig aka the Golden King, rules the Sixth Kingdom known for it’s riches, while King Fulke, another disgusting pig who is allies with Midas, rules the Fifth Kingdom, and King Ravingeridk yet if he’s also a pig or not—known for having the strongest & largest army force of all—rules the Fourth Kingdom.

There are of course the other three kingdoms but I have no idea what they’re famous for because I either forgot or it wasn’t mentioned.

“A cage is a cage, no matter how gilded.”

For most of her childhood, Auren was subjected to child trafficking and all kinds of abuse until at the age of 15, King Midas comes into her life and saves her. Now it’s been 10 years since then and Auren lives in the palace. Safe in her golden cage, protected from all who could cause her harm. Known to all as Midas’s favored, Auren is golden-touched—she literally is covered in gold (except she’s not actually made of gold of course).

Auren is not to leave her cage nor be touched by anyone except that disgusting pig King Midas. She lives alone and locked up, but she’s grateful to him because Midas saved her and kept her safe for years. Even more, Auren loves Midas. She’ll do anything for him. yes, i died watching this

But what happens when she truly opens her eyes to the world out there and leaves behind her cage? Well… a lot happens.

“I keep waiting for rescue to come, for a dawn to bloom, for a star to hatch, for a hope to surface.”

I’m not joking when I say I was dying from page 1. It was like that until the end honestly, although mostly in the first half of the book. The very… descriptive scenes—my poor eyes😭

The way Auren would be worshipping Midas- it was horrible and absolutely revolting but I can’t hate her for it because she’s a victim of Stockholm Syndrome, so it’s not really Auren’s fault she feels this way. To say she’s had a traumatizing life is an understatement itself. But even knowing this, I still hated it. I’m waiting for Auren to see the truth and how much Midas deserves a gruesome death 🙂

That brings me to all the repulsive men in this book. Literally only two of them were good, but the rest omg no no I don’t think I’ve ever felt a stronger urge to murder some characters. Here’s a sneak peak of the things said-

“Now sit pretty on your stool and play your silly music. Leave the men to speak, Auren.”

😃🔪🔪🔪

“You’d do well to learn from her on how to please a man.”

THIS ESPECIALLY. THE AUDACITY OF THIS GUY. “please a man” please go die🥺

“Behave tonight. Sit pretty. Be a good girl.”

rage i can practically hear the condescending tone in this ohmygod go to hell

“You are worth more than all the gold in this castle. But I still own you, and I will spend you any way I see fit.”

🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

“She’s mine.
And I’ll destroy everyone in my path to get her back.”

a “savior” all i see is a possessive freak.

That’s just a brief glimpse ahahaha muffled sobbing I think my copy of this book was in danger of being torn and ripped to shreds. I’m praying they get the death they deserve and Auren is the one who gives the death blow ❤

With all that out of the way, the ending has me excited for the next book and I’ve heard that it’s much better than the first. So far I don’t see how this is for fans of JLA/SJM but I can see where this is going in the next few books for it to be targeted towards fans of those two authors.👀

Despite my complaints, this really isn’t a bad book. I just hated all the abuse and very disturbing scenes. I don’t recommend reading this if you might not be able to handle all that.

Trigger warnings: explicit/mature language, graphic violence, and non-consensual sex (rape).

These Hollow Vows (These Hollow Vows, #1) by Lexi Ryan | ARC Review

From New York Times best-selling author Lexi Ryan, Cruel Prince meets A Court of Thorns and Roses in this sexy, action-packed fantasy about a girl who is caught between two treacherous faerie courts and their dangerously seductive princes.

Brie hates the Fae and refuses to have anything to do with them, even if that means starving on the street. But when her sister is sold to the sadistic king of the Unseelie court to pay a debt, she’ll do whatever it takes to get her back—including making a deal with the king himself to steal three magical relics from the Seelie court.

Gaining unfettered access to the Seelie court is easier said than done. Brie’s only choice is to pose as a potential bride for Prince Ronan, and she soon finds herself falling for him. Unwilling to let her heart distract her, she accepts help from a band of Unseelie misfits with their own secret agenda. As Brie spends time with their mysterious leader, Finn, she struggles to resist his seductive charm.

Caught between two dangerous courts, Brie must decide who to trust with her loyalty. And with her heart.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

My hatred for the main character and other love interest overpowers my enjoyment of the story😶

Literally from page 50, I’ve predicted the outcome of this love triangle and I swear to god if it actually ends like that- 🙂🔪🔪

Once upon a time, a golden faerie princess fell in love with the shadow king, but their kingdoms had battled for hundreds of years and her parents were sworn enemies of the king and his kingdom . . .

In this world, the Fae are viewed as many things. For some, they are loved and worshipped. For others, they are feared and subjected to their slavery. And then there are those humans who carry a deep hatred towards their kind–Abriella (or Brie) is one of these people.

After failing to pay back a long-overdue debt, Abriella’s sister, Jas, is sold and taken to the King Mordeus aka the Unseelie King of the Fae Realm. Brie will do anything to get her sister back, making a bargain with the king himself to retrieve 3 ancient artifacts in exchange for her safe and alive.

All she has to do is take place in a sort of ‘competition’ between other girls altho is it even a competition?? in which the Prince chooses who he wants as his queen. Brie must hold the Prince’s trust and capture his heart in order to gain access to these artifacts and give them the Unseelie King. Do that and she’ll get her sister back.

But of course there are many complications and a rebel group lead by the Unseelie Prince and trying to guard her heart from the two ~seductive~ Princes, etc, etc.

The main character, Abriella, is nOt LiKe OtHeR gIrLs because she doesn’t want to marry the Seelie Fae Prince for some ridiculous notion like love and she’s ~speshul~ because she has powers that nobody else in the world has. Fae would straight up say to her “You’re special” and continue repeating it ahahaha cursed laugh

Sebastian is a cinnamon roll (but i dont love him) and deserves better than Abriella. And just because he’s a cinnamon roll, I can bet on my life that Abriella is going to end up with the dArK aNd BrOoDiNg prince i say this like i dont fall for them too half the time I usually like dark and brooding love interests but only if they’re secretly soft/a cinnamon roll and respect the MC, but in this case… haha no. Finn is an arrogant, disgusting pig that treats the main character in a condescending way and is such a rude jerk, yet the main character says that she feels like she has a cOnNeCtIoN with him-

I hate Brie bc of how annoying she is, so maybe those two are perfect for each other. Sebastian deserves someone better🥺 but he’s also really sus sooo… Finn can go die in a hole. Abriella can go with Finn if she loves him so much.

Sebastian isn’t really all that great either but he’s a thousand times better than Finn. It’s always the cinnamon rolls that are never chosen in a love triangle but maybe the author will prove me wrong😔 doubtful This dude here at least is sweet, kind, considerate, soft, and must deal with the MC’s stupid decisions and dramatics smh. idk how Sebastian does it. [but he’s also a deceiving piece of trash so maybe he does deserve to deal with all of this ¯_(ツ)_/¯ // basically i hate all these characters.]

I can see how this is compared to The Cruel Prince but really the only similarity is that just like how Jude was involved in some spying within the court, Abriella is too, but that’s about it. Cardan Greenbriar cannot be compared to either of the love interests. He’s leagues away from these fools who call themselves Fae.

Now for where it’s like A Court of Thorns and Roses… I dont see it??? idk maybe my brain’s just not working right now but I don’t see anything ACOTAR related unless the main character going to the Fae world was supposed to be the similarity…? Or maybe how like Feyre had to go through 3 trials, the MC has to retrieve 3 artifacts??? hmmm idk. I did get some Tamlin vibes from Sebastian which is when I’d despise him, but I can’t really think of anything else.

Seriously though, the Fae here are a joke. They don’t even feel like Fae honestly like??? They speak and act just like humans and je n’aime pas. They’re so lame and there was a certain battle scene at the end that has to be one of the most ridiculous outcomes of a battle I’ve ever read in my life.😭🤚 I guess I expected more from the supposed villain ahaha and this is Fae we’re talking about-

They’re more like humans trying so hard to act like Fae but failing miserably. Maybe if this is your first Fae book then you won’t mind them, but I’ve read too many about them to believe that the ones here were actually written well.

Also I realized that always in Fae related books there has to be a some sort of scene where the MC drinks some faerie wine/fruit and becomes intoxicated/delirious and soon after that is there some sort of intimate scene😶 the one here was chokes awful.

Oh and the amount of scenes that made me cringe ahahaha💀 but the world isn’t bad, it’s pretty interesting at the very least. That ending though has to be one of the most abrupt ones I’ve ever read like wow. Also, I did not expect that plot twist at all. How can I both hate and enjoy a book? trashy fun.

Overall, this wasn’t completely bad, I guess. The story itself kept me engaged and I was able to finish this really fast in about a day, but even that wasn’t enough for me to like the book bc of its other faults mainly the characters. I think that if you don’t mind the characters then you’ll most likely enjoy the book. I probably would’ve given this a higher rating if Finn didn’t exist.

But yes, I’m going to read the next book only to see who she ends up with.

(2.5⭐)

Skyward (Skyward, #1) by Brandon Sanderson | Review

Spensa’s world has been under attack for decades.

Now pilots are the heroes of what’s left of the human race, and becoming one has always been Spensa’s dream. Since she was a little girl, she has imagined soaring skyward and proving her bravery. But her fate is intertwined with that of her father’s—a pilot himself who was killed years ago when he abruptly deserted his team, leaving Spensa the daughter of a coward, her chances of attending Flight School slim to none.

No one will let Spensa forget what her father did, yet fate works in mysterious ways. Flight school might be a long shot, but she is determined to fly. And an accidental discovery in a long-forgotten cavern might just provide her with a way to claim the stars.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Who would’ve thought that a talking spaceship would be my favourite character???

This book hit me right in the feels and I’m not even surprised because it’s Sanderson and Sanderson always does this. His books make me feel so scudding alive and I’m always coming out of his books looking at the world differently?? Like for an author to be able to do that with every scudding one of his books is beyond impressive. Of course, Skyward was no different and tackled so many different themes and concepts. I loved it so much omg.

“People need stories, child. They bring us hope, and that hope is real. If that’s the case, what does it matter whether people in them actually lived?”

First of all picture this: Fighting jets soaring through the sky trying to shoot down enemy aliens called Krell.

How does that not sound cool??

On the planet Detritus, humans are pushed to the brink of extinction by the attacks of the enemy Krell. Fighter pilots To fend off these attacks, fighter pilots are sent into the sky, eliminating as much of these aliens as they can lest they face death themselves. To be a pilot means to live a luxurious and honorable life thats if you manage to stay alive at least and many are encouraged to enter into Flight Academy… except for Spensa of course.

Many years ago Spensa’s father was considered a coward after having abandoned his mission in the middle of a Krell attack. Ever since that moment, Spensa and her family have been branded as a family of cowards and they’re shunned by everyone. It’s especially hard for Spensa as she wants to be fighter pilot and to get into pilot school she must pass the exams required. Unfortunately, everyone’s so against her going there since she’s a daughter of a coward, but Spensa won’t let this stop her and discover the truth to prove her father’s innocence. But what if the truth is not what Spensa expects…

“It has always seemed to me that a coward is a person who cares more about what people say than about what is right. Bravery isn’t about what people call you, Spensa. It’s about who you know yourself to be.”

I love how this book focuses on the idea of cowardice and bravery. Everyone is so scared to be branded as a coward of course, but especially Spensa because of the actions of her father. It even comes to being that if your ship is literally shot down and you’re about to crash and scudding die, ejecting is the act of a coward and therefore you’ll come back as a coward and forever be known as a coward?? Just wow. Sure, you’ll have a hero’s funeral if you don’t eject and won’t be called a coward but I mean… you’ll be scudding dead. So many deaths that could’ve been avoided… all because the fear that society had instilled into pilots of being a coward if you eject from your scudding ship.

“My confidence was that of a person who knew. Nobody could ever again convince me I was a coward. It didn’t matter what anyone said, anyone thought, or anyone claimed. I knew what I was.”

This quote here is literally everything. It’s human nature to care about what others say about you to the point where even you start to believe them. This moment meant so much like throughout the story Spensa cared so much about not being called a coward by others until she finally realized that the person who knows her best is Spensa herself. Screw all the others. This is a queen here.👑

“The soup tasted better than the blood of my enemies.”

Spensa just speaks in the most dramatic way I love it so much. She has the best entrances ever thinking about the meeting between Jerkface and Spensa and the banter in this book is perfect. I loved the side characters so scudding much, the friendships were so sweet😭

SPENSA AND M-BOT IS GOLDEN. Their bond is so beautiful and just he’s so sweet and funny omg. I need more M-Bot content in Starsight. Also Doomslug is so scudding cute.

“Sometimes, the answers we need don’t match the questions we’re asking. And sometimes, the coward makes fools of wiser men.”

I do think that something’s wrong with me being the most emotional person ever because literally I was tearing up over the ending of this book EVEN THOUGH IT WASN’T SAD. My emotional heart smh. But seriously though, that last scene hit me so hard and the way I was just so scudding happy. I cannot express how much I love these characters like I shouldn’t even be surprised at this point that Sanderson always creates the most amazing characters??

“When this is done, Jerkface, I will hold your tarnished and melted pin up as my trophy as your smoldering ship marks your pyre, and the final resting place of your crushed and broken corpse!”

The mixed reviews I’ve seen for Starsight concern me a little but hopefully I’ll love it just as much as I loved Skyward. Sanderson, you have my trust.

Words of Radiance (The Stormlight Archive, #2) by Brandon Sanderson | Review

Words of Radiance, Book Two of the Stormlight Archive, continues the immersive fantasy epic that The Way of Kings began.

Expected by his enemies to die the miserable death of a military slave, Kaladin survived to be given command of the royal bodyguards, a controversial first for a low-status “darkeyes.” Now he must protect the king and Dalinar from every common peril as well as the distinctly uncommon threat of the Assassin, all while secretly struggling to master remarkable new powers that are somehow linked to his honorspren, Syl.

The Assassin, Szeth, is active again, murdering rulers all over the world of Roshar, using his baffling powers to thwart every bodyguard and elude all pursuers. Among his prime targets is Highprince Dalinar, widely considered the power behind the Alethi throne. His leading role in the war would seem reason enough, but the Assassin’s master has much deeper motives.

Brilliant but troubled Shallan strives along a parallel path. Despite being broken in ways she refuses to acknowledge, she bears a terrible burden: to somehow prevent the return of the legendary Voidbringers and the civilization-ending Desolation that will follow. The secrets she needs can be found at the Shattered Plains, but just arriving there proves more difficult than she could have imagined.

Meanwhile, at the heart of the Shattered Plains, the Parshendi are making an epochal decision. Hard pressed by years of Alethi attacks, their numbers ever shrinking, they are convinced by their war leader, Eshonai, to risk everything on a desperate gamble with the very supernatural forces they once fled. The possible consequences for Parshendi and humans alike, indeed, for Roshar itself, are as dangerous as they are incalculable.

Another masterpiece by the King of High Fantasy😌

I finished this faster than I did for The Way of Kings and I didn’t even think that was possible. So me finishing this 1087 page book in 2 days should definitely tell you something about my love for Words of Radiance.

“All stories told have been told before. We tell them to ourselves, as did all men who ever were. And all men who ever will be. The only things new are the names.”

While The Way of Kings was basically Kaladin’s book, Words of Radiance was most certainly Shallan’s and I also didn’t even think it was possible to love her more than I already do, but it was.

Reading about Shallan’s past and the secrets she’s kept—omg it’s all so suffocating. In WoR, we see the lies Shallan tells to herself and others… these lies she will eventually have to confront if she has any hope in moving forward.

There’s so much darkness in Shallan’s life and seeing how broken she is, yet still being able to smile so brightly and find some happiness… I’m sorry, can you hear my heart breaking?? Shallan, my beautiful broken girl, I love you.😭 Please don’t lock away all this pain and let it consume you.

────── 🗡⋆⟡⋆🗡 ──────

🛑minor spoilers below🛑

“I seek the truth,” Shallan said. “Wherever it may be, whoever may hold it. That’s who I am.”

Okay, but Shallan playing spy and infiltrating the Ghostbloods was something I never knew I needed in my life.🥺

Is it weird to say that I actually really love like the Ghostbloods?? Like they’re pretty cool. I actually think I have a villain crush on Mraize although, is he really a villain? Their motives are still not clear and they don’t seem to be really that evil so not a villain in my eyes yet. Honestly, majority of the antagonists here aren’t really evil, it’s not black and white, it’s grey. For the most part their goals are understandable, it’s just the way they go about it being quite concerning. It’s more that they lack morality, but anyways I love how Sanderson does this and while I still do hate some of these people, I can understand some of the actions they take.

“The truth destroys more people than it saves.”

I’m literally OBSESSED with the Ghostbloods. It’s really concerning??? I pray for more of them. I NEED more of them. One of the higlights of this book was Shallan’s interactions with the Ghostbloods and omg I loved that. Mraize was said to be rarely impressed by anything but was impressed by what Shallan could do??🥺 Curse my love for this group.

I hate Sanderson for putting a thought into my head, when I know it’s highly unlikely that it’ll happen sobs I can’t stop imagining how amazing it would be if Shallan actually joined the Ghostbloods and found her own Bridge Four?? I barely know anything about these people—literally at the most only 100 pages out of 1087 did these guys appear—and their motives, but I just find them so cool😭 This super mysterious organization that is also very protective of one another and Also, even their group name sounds epic?? The ✨Ghostbloods✨

Anyways, I’d love it if something like Shallan joining their ranks were to magically happen, but I know it won’t 😦 wow, this really became a Ghostblood fangirling session

“What separates the heroes from the villains? One speech in the night.”

Surprisingly, Dalinar actually really annoyed me in this. I understood the situation he was in and the reasons behind some things, but at the same time it pissed me off the way he’d ignore and treat Kaladin’s claims of a certain bastard.

“I believe an apology is due.”

↪ THAT will forever be one of my favourite scenes omg. if you know, you know👀

“That was why he’d come back. It was about Tien, it was about Dalinar, and it was about what was right—but most of all, it was about protecting people. This was the man he wanted to be.”

Kaladin is as amazing and heartbreaking as ever. Even after saving Bridge Four, he is still not at peace with everything that’s happened to him and that’s definitely understandable sobs There’s still a deep burning hatred and vengeance floating in his mind totally don’t blame him for having I’m honestly surprised at the amount of restraint he had in certain situations… I could never.

Kaladin’s character development is spectacular and I can so tell that this is only the beginning of it. He still suffers with depression and trauma from these last few years and throughout the book, he goes through so many challenges…it’s amazing. He makes mistakes, but he learns. His growth in WoR is one of my favourite parts here and omg his interactions with Shallan and Adolin were golden.

“He saw it in her eyes. The anguish, the frustration. The terrible nothing that clawed inside and sought to smother her. She knew. It was there, inside. She had been broken.

Then she smiled. Oh, storms. She smiled anyway.

It was the single most beautiful thing he’d seen in his entire life.”

The chasm scene was so, so precious. I actually started crying, my heartt-

“Kaladin frowned. “Wait. Are you wearing cologne? In prison?”

“Well, there was no need to be barbaric, just because I was incarcerated.”

“Storms, you’re spoiled,” Kaladin said, smiling.

“I’m refined, you insolent farmer,” Adolin said. Then he grinned. “Besides, I’ll have you know that I had to use cold water for my baths while here.”

“Poor boy.”

Then the prison scene ohmygod my heart was so happy😭 I love Adolin and Kaladin’s growing friendship so much. And that one scene where they fought together omg sdfgdfdgds it was amazing

“Honor is dead.”

Speaking of Adolin, that brings me to my OTP—Shallan and Adolin.🥺 Look at these two and tell me they aren’t just one of the most adorable ships ever created???

I was living for their scenes. Like I literally had this ridiculous, goofy smile on my face every time those two interacted with each other. And the amount of times I reread those scenes… oh god why are they so cute??

Adolin believing that Shallan had come to the fighting grounds to watch him train, but being totally wrong and looking like a fool in front of Kaladin??? Perfection.

Shallan asking the most random questions—one of them being how do the Shardbearers, specifically Adolin, use the bathroom in their Shardbearers in the middle of long battles?? Adolin’s response omg I was wheezing.😭🤚

And then there was Adolin’s shocked face when Shallan kissed his cheek🥺 (Alethi are more reserved when it comes to showing affection bahaha) SO CUTE, I CAN’T. I’m so hyped for their future scenes omg and now I’m terrified that Sanderson will do something to them sobs please, no.

ALSO WIT OMG WIT, I LOVE YOU. Dare I say that he’s my favourite character despite his minimal appearances??? His scenes are always so good omg one of my favourites:

Kaladin prepared to swing up into the seat beside the carriage driver, then stopped.
“You!” he said, pointing at the driver.
“Me!” the King’s Wit replied from where he sat holding the reins.

Adolin climbed out to await her, straightening his jacket, polishing the buttons on one sleeve. He glanced up towards the driver’s seat, then started.
“You!” Adolin exclaimed.
“Me!” Wit replied. He swung down from the top of the carriage and performed a flowery bow.

She suddenly started, eyes widening. She pointed at Wit with her freehand.
“You!” Shallan exclaimed.
“Yes, yes. People certainly are very good at identifying me today. Perhaps I need to wear—”

I can’t stop laughing ohmygod why is Wit so amazing?? I NEED MORE WIT.

“Try not to flirt with the girl,” Wit whispered. “Young Adolin seems to be growing possessive. Or…what am I saying? Flirt with the girl, Kaladin. It might make the prince’s eyes bulge.”

I’d say Wit “please marry me” but I’m sure if I was in his presence for even 5 seconds, I’d want to kill him so I’ll just stay over here and laugh at him making fun of the others😌

Anyways, it seems that even though I was preparing to love this, there was still so much I wasn’t expecting like falling in love with the Ghostbloods But anyways, I’m officially obsessed with this seriesand the Ghostbloods and this obsession scares me because I know once I catch up to the series, I’m going to have one of the worst book hangovers ever.

ahh I can’t wait for Oathbringer to destroy me and my poor heart✌

Greek Mythology Book Tag (And I’m back!!)

***(Fanart of Percy used above is by Space Dementia)

Bonjour my fellow bookworms!✨ I know that I disappeared out of the blue for quite awhile but I’m back now after a long break! And to start off, I’m finally doing one of my tags hehe

Yes I know how ridiculously late this is, but I mean better late than never…? * nervous laughter * Maybe I’ll finally be able to catch up with all my other tags doubtful hopefully. And what better time to do this then 2 days after Percy’s birthday?🔱

Anyways, sorry for being so late and thank you May @ Dreamer of Books and Coffee for tagging me!! Truly honoured and I had so much fun putting in my answers😌 and now i feel like rereading pjo omg

Now on to the tag!

Oh yes, the cursed question bookworms fear—the “favourite book.” Like how can you even choose just one book??? The day I’m able to is the day hell freezes over, but until then I’m going to choose one of my favs of this year and that’s House of Earth and Blood. So many of my friends were telling me that I’d love HOEAB and that’s just what happened.🥰

Once upon a time, I would’ve right away said Clockwork Princess, but now… oh now The Burning God easily steals the spot. If you know, you know😭😭 That ending gave me all the feels, more specifically it destroyed what was left of my heart and even months later I still haven’t recovered. I want to say that I’d sob to my heart’s content, but I’ll never be okay. And it’s all thanks to Rebecca Kuang😘

What automatically came to mind was The Box in the Woods aka the 4th book in the Truly Devious series. Definitely the most creepiest out of the books published so far in that series😰 Imagine going camping only to find dead bodies all around and soon after be the target of the killer-

Tara Spruit Art — Adolin and Shallan as the Lovers card for my...

OMG LITERALLY I SCREAMED WHEN I SAW THIS BECAUSE I AUTOMATICALLY KNEW OF THE PERFECT COUPLE. First of all though, there are way too many cute fictional couples to pick and a long time ago I would’ve definitely struggled. However, recently I’ve found a new OTP that I’d die for🥺 Adolin and Shallan are just so adorable and precious. Like that fanart above?? How does that not scream cute?? Looking at them makes me want to cry because I just love them so so much. Oh, and these two characters are from The Stormlight Archives, so this is another reminder to ADD THIS SERIES TO YOUR TBR.

Uh oh… not me putting another Sanderson book-

Okay but seriously, Sanderson really does have the best worldbuilding I’ve ever seen in any other book. His best yet (imo) is once again in The Stormlight Archives. It’s really just beyond amazing, it always just blows my mind away like how does this guy do it??

This is very cruel. I’ve honestly contemplated creating a shelf on Goodreads for gorgeous covers because omg a lot of them are just so beautiful I can’t stop staring🥺🥺 One of my favourite covers this year is the one for Chain of Iron. Lucie being on the cover made me so happy and she’s so beautiful it hurts🤧 I’M SO EXCITED FOR THE CHAIN OF THORNS COVER REVEAL🔥🔥 * manifesting James Herondale on the cover *

R.F. Kuang's Epic Poppy War Series Is Headed to Television | Tor.com

AHAHAHAHA * laughs in pain * there’s no doubt about it that the whole The Poppy War trilogy is literally the most violent series I have ever read in my entire life and I don’t think that’s going to change any time soon💀 I love it so much but oh the pain I went through reading the series. Thinking about it now makes me want to curl up and die😭

The one and only Jude Duarte aka the love of my life from The Folk of the Air trilogy🥺💞 Of course she’d be one of my favourite femme fatales mehehe her boldness and cunning ways – I love her so much <33

Skyward : Sanderson, Brandon: Amazon.ca: Books

There have been so many books with such beautiful messages to the point where I’d be tearing up, especially when seeing the main character follow that message🥺 Most recently Skyward is what’s done that to me. It’s human nature to care about what others say about you to the point where even you start to believe them. And seeing the message to trust in what you think about yourself more than what others say was just ❤ because in the end, we know ourselves better than anyone else in the world.

Link to my review ~ Skyward Review

Another cruel one😭😭 I’m going with not one–but TWO scorching hot characters and that is my two loves the James Herondale and Cordelia Carstairs from The Last Hours series. I love them with my entire being AND NEED TO SEE THEIR HEA OR ELSE🔪 I could literally stare at this piece of fanart all day. Stan Jordelia forever🔥

Hana Khan Carries On was a totally relatable story and probably the most relatable up to date for me. The main character Hana is Muslim (like me), lives in Canada (like me), and has to deal with Islamophobia (also like me). It’s nice reading about a character who tries to fight back against Islamophobia but also face reality that it can’t be easily fixed just like in the real world here.

10 Iconic Shadowhunters Locations - Riveted

So you see, on one hand there are soooo many places I’d die to live in😍 but on the other… I’d quite literally die if I lived in any of those places as most of them would be in set in deadly fantasy worlds😂 But if I had to choose, 100% say the Shadowhunter world (specifically in London, England) BECAUSE UM JEM CARSTAIRS?? To be able to meet Jem face to face would be a dream come true🥺🥺

The Iron Sword (The Iron Fey: Evenfall, #2)

TOO MANY. #1 on that list is most definitely Chain of Thorns along with my 2nd being House of Sky and Breath buut since both haven’t had their covers revealed yet, I’m going to go with one of my most anticipated 2022 releases that does have a cover and The Iron Sword it is! This is a spin-off series to one of my all-time favourite series in the world–The Iron Fey–and this book here is said to be in the POV of the love of my life AND first book boyfriend Ash!! I’m so so excited to read this and that cover so fits Ash, just gorgeous💙

Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass, #3) by Sarah J. Maas | Review

Celaena has survived deadly contests and shattering heartbreak-but at an unspeakable cost. Now, she must travel to a new land to confront her darkest truth . . . a truth about her heritage that could change her life-and her future-forever. Meanwhile, brutal and monstrous forces are gathering on the horizon, intent on enslaving her world. Will Celaena find the strength to not only fight her inner demons, but to take on the evil that is about to be unleashed?

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

It’s been weeks since I finished reading HoF and I’ve been trying to write a review for it but I just couldn’t. I struggled. And I kept wondering why? Why was it so hard for me to write a review for this?

It was heartbreaking, yes, but The Burning God was even more heartbreaking and we don’t talk about that yet I was able to write a review for that. HoF wasn’t a terrible book either, so it shouldn’t have been difficult for me to write down my thoughts.

But then I realized why… it was really simple honestly.

I didn’t know what to say.

Heir of Fire was beautiful. So beautiful that deep down I knew that no matter what I said, it wouldn’t be enough to show my love for this book.

This is a journey of grief. Of pain, love, friendship, and finding your way back up to the surface after being buried deep inside a bottomless pit.

Celaena has been through a lot and it hurts knowing that this is only just the beginning of more pain and suffering. But no matter what, as long as there’s light in this world of darkness, there is hope.

═══.·:·.☽✧ ✦ ✧☾.·:·.═══

“She was the heir of ash and fire, and she would bow to no one.”

Death has once again made an appearance in Celaena’s life. After a shocking turn of events, Celaena has left Adarlan and journeyed to Wendlyn on a mission to uncover truths that have been hidden for too long. Secrets will be revealed, new forces will awaken, and… Celaena will have to face her past.

Fireheart—why do you cry?

“Because I am lost,” she whispered onto the earth. “And I do not know the way.”

The amount of times I wanted to cry watching Celaena struggle with her grief and trauma. It was heartbreaking as always. She was filled with so much regret and guilt, going as far as saying that she didn’t deserve to live–my heart * sobs * But in the face of all of this, even when she wanted to give up–there was always something stopping her. Or more like a certain someone among other things👀

And of course, there were new characters who played a role in her healing.

“I claim you, Aelin. To whatever end.”

Rowan Whitethorn–I can see why a lot may have hated this book and him so much. I despised Rowan. The way he treated Celaena in the beginning was absolutely despicable and the things he said….* rage *

But that’s what makes the development between the two so amazing. They went from “i-want-to-murder-you-and-make-you-wish-you-were-never-born” to “i-want-to-murder-you-with-love-and-annoy-the-hell-out-of-you.” Isn’t that such amazing development?? Ah, but of course it’s platonic love.

Woah, wait. I just realized that this is the first (and probably only) SJM book that didn’t have the female main character with a love interest??? ohmygod I am shook. ofc that’ll change in the next book but sdfsdsdfs

Anyways, I don’t really love Rowan. I like him, but not love. Maybe that will change when I re-read Queen of Shadows though. The scene at the end was definitely so sweet.🥺

“You do not have the right to wish she were not what she is. The only thing you have a right to do is decide whether you are her enemy or her friend.”

Dorian calling out Chaol was probably one of the best scenes when it came to their povs. I didn’t really enjoy Dorian or Chaol’s povs. I mean, I also didn’t enjoy Manon’s pov either ahaha although that’s no surprise (hence the 0.5 star being taken off). I was really only looking forward to Celaena’s chapters. thats no surprise either

Dorian’s a cinnamon roll and cinnamon rolls do not deserve to suffer * sobs *

Chaol was… Chaol. Struggling with all the change that’s happening and to say he doesn’t like this change is an understatement.

Sorscha was just there. Like I admire her and the way she was there for Dorian–because of that, I like her.

Manon was boring. I skimmed some of her chapters in the beginning because honestly I could care less. Although, I did actually like her chapters more towards the end.

Aedion’s loyalty to his queen is amazing. All this time thinking she was dead to find out she’s not and that ending-

It’s always the last few pages when everything goes to hell🙂

“She was Aelin Ashryver Galathynius—and she would not be afraid.”
