December 2020 ~ Wrap Up

Ahahaha yes I’m finally posting my very late December 2020 TBR, when it’s clearly 2021. After months of my freak outs, I bet you’re all wondering if I ever finished my reading challenge, eh? unless you saw on goodreads

Bokuto’s so proud of meπŸ₯Ί

Anndddd I’m never doing that again. I don’t know how people can read 250+ books, the most I’ve ever read was 161 in 2019 and I don’t think I’ll ever beat that.πŸ˜†

However, in the end I had to read many novellas to complete, because I mean reality is, that I could never read 18 normal books oh no no that’s impossible for me xD.

Now this will probably be a pretty long list so let’s get to it!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

This was just beautiful. It broke me completely. My biggest regret is reading this after I’ve already finished the series ahhhh stupid me smh😭. Sam * sobs *

Hehe I was able to count the 5 novellas plus this book as a whole to my reading challenge😈

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Although Jace and Clary aren’t my biggest fans, this was pretty cute! The collection of short stories were good, though some of them made me cringe too xD. I’m hoping that Cassie does something like this with Will & Tessa or Julian & Emma…now THAT would be amazing!πŸ˜πŸ’–

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This reread was beautiful and honestly the foreshadowing is just amazing. Sarah, you are literally a genius, like how did I not see so much??? My massive buddy read pals weren’t able to read CoM, but we definitely will in January and ahhh I already know I’m gonna cry😭

Rating: 4 out of 5.

CARDAN CARDAN CARDAN. Ahhh I said I’d read it before 2020 ended and I did😎 totally didnt also read it for my challenge I think we can all agree when I say that we need more JURDAN. I will never stop begging for that hehe.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

Ahaha honestly this was really just not for meπŸ™ˆ I feel bad for giving this such a low rating for a debut author but ahhh I just couldn’t.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Literally all I need to say is Adrian Ivashkov, the love of my life. I do think that the guy in cover doesn’t do him justice, but I totally imagine Sydney like that.

But this book…EVERYONE YOU MUST READ THIS i mean i’ve read this 3 times so that must say something, especially if you loved Vampire Academy!

Omg this parody…I have to say that I have conflicted feelings on this hence the reason why I’ve yet to rate/review this. On one hand it was sometimes funny, but then it was also pretty * ahem * disturbing. I’ll get to reviewing it…one day xD

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

I’m sure you’ve heard enough gushing from me for one day BUT GUYSS THIS BOOK!!! Ahhh I need book 2 ASAP, and just saying…this may or may not be a book for a certain book box heheπŸ˜‰

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I loved being able to relate with Eliza! Us introverts stick together!😎 Still not over that ending thoughπŸ’€

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Totally wasn’t desperate to finish my reading challenge ahaha but like wow if possible I want These Violent Delights #2 even more! This Christmas special just broke my heart. Roma and JulietteπŸ₯Ί

Rating: 4 out of 5.

ANOTHER STORY THAT MADE ME CRY. Aghh I barely remember anything from The Darkest Minds, so I think I’m gonna be doing a reread in 2021. Oh, my sweet boy Liam.😭

Rating: 5 out of 5.

That’s all there is to it. Oh and that ending…yea I can’t just stop my reread here after that. Especially since the 3rd book is my favouriteee😍

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

You knowβ€”I’m not going to even😭😭😭 It’s clear I was trying to torture myself in December with all these painful books. AND THIS ONE WAS NO DIFFERENT. I’m going to dieee waiting for book 3. SEND HELP.πŸ₯ΊπŸ’”

If I had to summarize December 2020 in one word, it’d be P A I N.

It was obvious that I didn’t suffer enough in 2020, so these books just HAD TO BREAK ME EVEN MORE.

So lesson of the year is to NEVER AGAIN set a goal like this because reality is that I’m gonna get older and even more busy, so I doubt I’ll be able to read like this again.πŸ˜† But other than rushing to finish my reading challenge, this month was AMAZING!!

For one thing, I actually made it onto the Best Reviewers List GLOBALLY ON GOODREADS AHHHHHHHHHHHH I CAN’T BELIEVE IT. I LITERALLY SCREAMED WHEN I SAW IT. Was crying tears of joy when I saw thatβ€”never did I think I’d make it on there😭😭 I’m so thankful to all those who actually read my reviewsπŸ₯ΊπŸ’–

And then there’s me being able to actually schedule some of my blog posts and not rush through themπŸ˜‚ But now that school’s started again ahahahhaaπŸ’€

Lastly, I was able to meet so many more new friends on here AND Goodreads ahhhh I’m so happy. It’s come to the point where I talk to all of you more than my real life friends wow that doesnt make me sound anti-social to the outside world at all

The Silvered Serpents (The Gilded Wolves, #2) by Roshani Chokshi | Review

They are each other’s fiercest love, greatest danger, and only hope.

SΓ©verin and his team members might have successfully thwarted the Fallen House, but victory came at a terrible cost β€” one that still haunts all of them. Desperate to make amends, SΓ©verin pursues a dangerous lead to find a long lost artifact rumored to grant its possessor the power of God.

Their hunt lures them far from Paris, and into the icy heart of Russia where crystalline ice animals stalk forgotten mansions, broken goddesses carry deadly secrets, and a string of unsolved murders makes the crew question whether an ancient myth is a myth after all.

As hidden secrets come to the light and the ghosts of the past catch up to them, the crew will discover new dimensions of themselves. But what they find out may lead them down paths they never imagined.

A tale of love and betrayal as the crew risks their lives for one last job.

Returning to the dark and glamorous 19th century world of herΒ New York TimesΒ instant bestseller,Β The Gilded Wolves, Roshani Chokshi dazzles us with another riveting tale as full of mystery and danger as ever inΒ The Silvered Serpents.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

I’m okay.

She could not see her hope for what it was, nothing more than a silvered serpent.

I-I’m okay.

Love did not always wear the face one wished it would.

Sometimes it looked downright monstrous.

Thank you Roshani for giving me a heart attack.
What a beautiful way to end 2020.πŸ˜ƒ

β€œYou might not be a true muse, but you will live on as inspiration to me.”

I don’t know how to write this review without breaking into sobs and screaming at the world. I saw so many friends saying how much this book destroyed them and I believed it…but I also couldn’t believe it to be that bad.
Oh how wrong I was.

so much for no screaming

I swear, it’s like December 2020, was the month of heartbreaking books. sam sobs Like “Oh, 2020 wasn’t bad enough, so let’s make Lia suffer this last month.” Yes, torture. How I love torture. ik, ik im being overdramatic BUT I WONT STOP

β€œWhen the devil waged war in the heavens, even angels had to fall.”

Everything is not okay. After the events in The Gilded Wolves , everything has changed.

In grief, Severin has closed off all feelings and wants to play…god.

In grief, Laila has stopped baking, dancing, and withdrawn from the others.

In grief, Enrique has busied himself with work and wants to be heard.

In grief, Zofia has left to Poland, and away from memories.

In grief, Hypnos has attempted to be someone he isn’t.

β€œWhen a man cannot see a person as a person, then the devil has slipped into him and is peering out of his eyes.”

They’re all affected by death, but it is Severin whose been hit hardest. The pain he feels and the way he acts . . . I wanted to sob over the cruelty, I wanted to strangle him…with love of course, but most of all, I just wanted him to see past the darkness he holed himself up in.

As much as I despise Roshani for causing me unrelenting pain, I must applaud her for the way she wrote Severin’s grief. It’s so beautifully heartbreaking and realistic . Everyone deals with the death of someone they love differently, and I have to say that this is the first YA novel I’ve seen that’s handled grief this way.

Sure, there’s the typical revenge and depression, but how Roshani did it is so much more complex and I am just left in awe and pain. Thank you for doing this to me, Roshani.πŸ˜πŸ‘

“If surviving meant cutting out her heart, then at least she could do it by her own hand.”

While Severin is acting cold and cruel, Laila must struggle to deal with her mortality and savor what time she has left. And with her deal with Severinβ€”to pretend to be his mistress on their mission to retrieve The Divine Lyrics in Russiaβ€”it broke my heart watching those two. It broke me even more every time I saw Laila lose hope and the cruel, painful words Severin would say to her . . . ohmygod I wanted to slap him senseless, but knowing the reason behind it also made me want to break down.

So as you can see…T O O M A N Y F E E L S .

“The light the world perceived belonged to the visible spectrum, which meant there was light humans could not see.
But Zofia wondered if they could feel it all the same, the way she could sense sunshine against her closed eyelids. Because that was how friendship felt to her, an illumination too vast for her senses to capture.”

I am very much in love with Zofia. Our engineer here goes through so much growth in this book, I feel like crying not surprising. She learns to be brave even while feeling fear, she learns to go beyond her comfort zone, and the result of that is just spectacular.

Picture thisβ€”Zofia riding an ice stag while holding a flaming sword…I don’t know about you, but that has got to be one of the coolest scenes I’ve ever read and I will never get that out of my head.πŸ₯Ί asdfghfdsafsgh thinking about Zofia, brings unwanted memories of the ending I CANT-

β€œHe wanted someone who would enter a room and look for him first, to behold him as though the secrets of the world lay somewhere in his gaze, to finish his sentences. Someone to share cake with.”

Enriqueeee, my love.😭 So much hurt and it kills me. He just wants others to listen to him, and there’s only one person who truly does. I was on the fence before, but now after this, I’m soooo shipping Zorique. I see way more chemistry between the two, than Hypnos/Enrique.

Enrique has always been my favourite and here he still is. The way he grew to finally see what he truly wants . . . this charming and adorable cinnamon has my heart, and deserves the world. And those last few chapters sobs I will never recover.

β€œI wanted to be a person I saw only in my dreams, and I named myself for that realm.”

Lastly, there’s Hypnos. I have conflicted feelings towards Hypnos. He tried so hard to be someone Severin could rely on, and really wanted to fit in with the rest of the group…so watching that made my heart go out for him.

But then other things made me really dislike him like in how he used certain people. I don’t forgive him for that, so it is with much regret that I say that I didn’t like Hypnos in this book.πŸ˜•

In terms of the setting, I absolutely LOVED how it was set in Russia but, like how krista pointed out, we really didn’t get to see much of it since of the story took place in The Sleeping Palace and them searching for clues within that area.

Still it wasn’t that much of a big deal, other than it taking awhile for me to get into the story in the beginning, but after that it was so tense and amazing!! Also, thankfully the plot wasn’t as confusing as the first book, so that made this much more enjoyable!πŸ₯°

OH and I’m happy to say that I actually guessed who was the villain!! And I NEVER guess right so THIS IS HUGE!! So either I’m getting better, if slowly, at guessing who the culprits are, orrr it was meant to be easily guessed probably the latter…shhhhh let me bask in my glory.

Now excuse me while I go back to dying until Fall 2021.

The Golden Lily (Bloodlines, #2) by Richelle Mead | Review

Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. Alchemists protect vampire secrets – and human lives.

Sydney would love to go to college, but instead, she’s been sent into hiding at a posh boarding school in Palm Springs, California – tasked with protecting Moroi princess Jill Dragomir from assassins who want to throw the Moroi court into civil war. Formerly in disgrace, Sydney is now praised for her loyalty and obedience, and held up as the model of an exemplary Alchemist.

But the closer she grows to Jill, Eddie, and especially Adrian, the more she finds herself questioning her age-old Alchemist beliefs, her idea of family, and her sense of what it means to truly belong. Her world becomes even more complicated when magical experiments show Sydney may hold the key to prevent becoming Strigoi – the fiercest vampires, the ones who don’t die. But it’s her fear of being just that – special, magical, powerful – that scares her more than anything. Equally daunting is her new romance with Braydon, a cute, brainy guy who seems to be her match in every way. Yet, as perfect as he seems, Sydney finds herself being drawn to someone else – someone forbidden to her.

When a shocking secret threatens to tear the vampire world apart, Sydney’s loyalties are suddenly tested more than ever before. She wonders how she’s supposed to strike a balance between the principles and dogmas she’s been taught, and what her instincts are now telling her.

Should she trust the Alchemists – or her heart?

Rating: 5 out of 5.

“But when I’m around you, I want to be better because… well, because it feels right. Because I want to.”

“You make me want to become something greater than myself. I want to excel. You inspire me in every act, every word, every glance.”

You’re going to make me cry.πŸ₯Ί

“I look at you, and you’re like… like light made into flesh. I said it on Halloween and meant every word: you are the most beautiful creature I have ever seen walking this earth. And you don’t even know it.

You have no clue how beautiful you are or how brightly you shine.”

* swoooon * AHHH I CAN’T TAKE THIS

This is literally a repeat of my Bloodlines review except shorter, but seriously Adrian is e v e r y t h i n g.😭

And that ending??? It gets at me.

“Adrian stood there leaning against the doorframe, watching me with his heart in his eyes.
In my chest, my own heart was breaking. On my cheek, the lily reminded me who I was.

I turned from him and walked away, refusing to look back.”

And this is my 3rd reread, so you’d think I’d be used to this.
but NO

Adrian deserves all the love in the world, and I cannot wait to to reread the 3rd bookβ€”my favourite altho i literally love all her books and once again see it all.πŸ₯Ί

And then of course, I loved seeing Adrian bait Brayden. It’s just too good hehe xD

“And they were prostitutes, right?” asked Adrian. “These hetaerae?”

“Some were,” agreed Brayden. “Not all. I think the usual term is courtesan.”

Adrian was completely deadpan. “So. You’re saying my sister’s dressed like a prostitute.”

Brayden eyed my dress. “Well, yes, if we’re still speaking in hypothetical – “

Oh, AdrianπŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜‚

Adrian being jealous of good ol’ Brayden-who-everyone-forgets-his-name xD I CANT-

AHhhhh I can’t wait to see more Sydrian moments, which I L I V E for.

curse you, richelle mead, for making me fall so hard for adrian 😦

β€œBut perhaps the best part of all was that I, Sydney Katherine Sage, guilty of constantly analyzing the world around me, well, I stopped thinking.”

Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia | Review

Her story is a phenomenon. Her life is a disaster.

In the real world, Eliza Mirk is shy, weird, and friendless. Online, she’s LadyConstellation, the anonymous creator of the wildly popular webcomic Monstrous Sea. Eliza can’t imagine enjoying the real world as much as she loves the online one, and she has no desire to try.

Then Wallace Warland, Monstrous Sea’s biggest fanfiction writer, transfers to her school. Wallace thinks Eliza is just another fan, and as he draws her out of her shell, she begins to wonder if a life offline might be worthwhile.

But when Eliza’s secret is accidentally shared with the world, everything she’s builtβ€”her story, her relationship with Wallace, and even her sanityβ€”begins to fall apart.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

“I am LadyConstellation.
I am also Eliza Mirk.
This is the paradox that can never be solved.”

That ending should be torn out, placed in a shredder, lit on fire, and buried in a grave.

Oh, and don’t forget the explosives 😦

Minus a certain scene from the ending, this book was absolutely beautiful and I almost cried reading this.πŸ₯Ί but im emotional in general, so that doesnt mean anything

β€œLike life, what gives a story its meaning is the fact that it ends. Our stories have lives of their ownβ€”and its up to us to make them mean something.”

Eighteen year old Eliza Mirks looks to be like any other normal high schooler dealing with the anxiety/stress of school and being a total introvert like me . . . but online, she’s also known as the LadyConstellationβ€”creator of one of the most popular webcomics in the world ~ Monstrous Sea.

Everyday goes about the same until she meets the new kid, Wallace, who also happens to be writing fanfiction for Monstrous Sea. After one incident, they slowly start to become more acquainted with another, and so forth with their relationship.

β€œI made Monstrous Sea because it’s the story I wanted.
I wanted a story like it, and I couldn’t find one, so I created it myself.”

Like many others have stated, I could see myself in Eliza.

β˜… I totally prefer being online than real life, I mean Goodreads is basically e v e r y t h i n g.

β˜… I don’t hate socializing, but I prefer to be alone most of the time with my books of course hehe.

β˜… I definitely always overthink the most simplest things that happen because I’m always worried about what the other person will think xD ahhh she’s just so relatable.

And then there were also those times when Eliza would be so absorbed in drawing the next episode for Monstrous Sea that she’d ignore everything else around her, especially her family trying to talk to her . . . and that reminds me of all those times I’d be so absorbed in what I’m reading that I’d do the same thing Eliza does (except not as extreme as losing track of days).

This is a good lesson for me not to do that so much. I can’t help being so into a book though heheπŸ˜‚

What’s the point of being alive if you don’t do what makes you happy? What good is a career that makes you money if you hate yourself every day you do it?”

Now I was pretty okay with Wallace in the beginning. I did find it a little weird that they’d exchange notes talking to each other when they were right next to the other, but I understand people are different.

Omg but when it was revealed why he’s so quiet and his story in what happened a few years ago . . . that was SO SAD😭 I felt so bad for him, that is just terrible. And after that I liked and understood him a lot more.

What he said to Eliza . . . omg no I don’t care if it decides your future and you’re stressed out, you should never demand that of someone when clearly they themselves are dealing with a lot. And nobody in this world has a “perfect life”, even if it looks like it. We don’t know what they’re dealing with and what they had to deal with for their life to look like that.

He apologized in the end, and she forgave him, but I don’t know . . . I guess I’m just less forgiving Β―_(ツ)_/Β―

Ahh I did love the side characters though! Max and Emmy are the best online friends Eliza could’ve asked for. And they’re h i l a r i o u sπŸ˜‚ I love their convos xD

“Apocalypse_Cow: what kind of guy is usually interested in you?

MirkerLurker: The kind I make up in my head.

Apocalypse_Cow: wooooooooooooooooooooooow

Apocalypse_Cow: woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow

Apocalypse_Cow: do you want me to go ahead and fill your house with cats right now, or do you want to put that off for a few years?

MirkerLurker: Har har

MirkerLurker: I have to sit next to this guy in homeroom on Monday. What am I going to say to him?

emmersmacks: What have you been saying to him

MirkerLurker: Nothing. I thought that was clear.

emmersmacks: Then continue doing that

emmersmacks: If he wants to say something to you he will

MirkerLurker: Why does a twelve-year-old know more about boys than I do?

emmersmacks: IM FOURTEEN”

I love them.πŸ˜† Along with Sully and Church, of course.

And the ending was beautiful, I just wanted to cry. Other than Eliza forgiving Wallace, I loved it.

Ahhhh but I do wish we could see how Eliza decided to end Monstrous Sea. Oh well.😒

A Dark and Hollow Star (A Dark and Hollow Star, #1) by Ashley Shuttleworth | ARC Review

The Cruel Prince meets City of Bones in this thrilling urban fantasy set in the magical underworld of Toronto that follows a queer cast of characters racing to stop a serial killer whose crimes could expose the hidden world of faeries to humans.

Choose your player.

The β€œironborn” half-fae outcast of her royal fae family.
A tempestuous Fury, exiled to earth from the Immortal Realm and hellbent on revenge.
A dutiful fae prince, determined to earn his place on the throne.
The prince’s brooding guardian, burdened with a terrible secret.

For centuries, the Eight Courts of Folk have lived among us, concealed by magic and bound by law to do no harm to humans. This arrangement has long kept peace in the Courtsβ€”until a series of gruesome and ritualistic murders rocks the city of Toronto and threatens to expose faeries to the human world.

Four queer teens, each who hold a key piece of the truth behind these murders, must form a tenuous alliance in their effort to track down the mysterious killer behind these crimes. If they fail, they risk the destruction of the faerie and human worlds alike. If that’s not bad enough, there’s a war brewing between the Mortal and Immortal Realms, and one of these teens is destined to tip the scales. The only question is: which way?

Wish them luck. They’re going to need it.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Arlo, Nos, Vehan, Aurelian . . . I’m so ducking in love with them it’s not even funnyπŸ₯ΊπŸ˜

Now the real question is: When’s 2022? also plz kill a certain individual who starts with an ‘R’

Because I really, really, really need the next book right now. This is 100% definitely better than both The Cruel Prince and City of Bones in my opinion.

I don’t mean to hype this book too much because the hype can sometimes kill a book BUT SERIOUSLY I LOVE THIS SO MUCH I WOULD DIE FOR THESE GUYS😭 which I definitely was not expecting going into this.

Thank you Ashley for making me feel like this. Nowβ€”if any of them are killed, I will be left destroyed.πŸ˜ƒ im terrified

In this world, Fae and faeries also live in the human world, while of course, not allowing the humans to discover that magical creatures do in fact exist. (glamour is truly amazing😌)

While the Seelie Court’s base is in Nevadaβ€”run by their only Queen Riadne, the Unseelie Court are the ones who have true power, living in good ol’ Toronto, with their High King Azurean.

The way Ashley created this world . . . it leaves me in aweπŸ₯Ί. I love most how this takes place in modern day with Fae heyy that rhymed AND IN TORONTOOOO😭 (and Nevada) All those mentions made me so happy. I actually knew exactly how the scenes looked like whenever they took place ahhhh the feeling is so nice.

I’m so very much in love with everything in this book, but mostly (as I’ve probably mentioned a million times by now) with THE CHARACTERS

“What if I don’t want to be a hero?”

From the moment I met Arlo Jarsdel, I fell in love with her.
But from the moment I found out that she was a manga/anime fanβ€”

I knew right then and there, I’d lay down my life for this girl. it sounds ridiculous BUT SHE LOVES ANIME SO IDC

I love her and I will not never stop saying how much I love her because this girl is amazing and deserves the world and the respect that some of these idiots cant give.πŸ‘Ώ They’re all just JEALOUS they cant be an ironborn half-fae, half-human haha suckersss.

Anyways, Arlo is definitely the quiet and reserved type around others, but with those she loves (like my sweet Celadon & Arlo) . . . let’s just say that she’s very fierce and annoyingly persistent when she wants something.😏

“One hundred and sixteen years ago, eleven people learned the answer to that question, Vehan Lysterne.

NausicaΓ€ Kraken (aka Nos)β€”the chaotic and very sarcastic lesbian that loves to wreak havoc. Literally from page 3 when she told the others half while facing her trial . . . to say that I started to worship this girl is definitely an understatement. Muahahhaha I love a girl who says exactly what’s on their mind without a care in the world. And she definitely hates socializing like every introvert . . . except with maybe Arlo of course hehe.

The way she tries to make people think less of herπŸ₯Ί no no no Nos is not fooling anyone behind this act, especially not Arlo . All that hurt is too much for one to carry alone and I can’t wait to see that healing in the next book😭

(gorgeous art by @viria94)

“It eats at me, because feeling that?
That soul-crushing hopelessness that drowns everything else inside you and tells you you’re totally and completely alone, that you’re nothing but a tool, a means to an end, a burden, and no one will really miss you when you’re gone?
I know exactly what that’s like.”

I want to MURDER the person who made him feel that way and I know EXACTLY who I should be targeting.πŸ‘Ώ

Aghh you see what I mean? How can I choose a favourite when they all make me feel like this?!?! I demand that Ashley be sued for the too many feels.πŸ₯Ί

Vehan is too precious and as the prince of Seelie, all he wants to do is protect others and be a future king everyone can rely on. He loves too much . . . especially a certain dark haired, golden eyed person.

I am very very sad and especially after that ending, I fear for my life because what’s going to happen omgggg that ducking shouldn’t happen. Over my dead body . I want to cry 😦 wow do i sound crazy

And lastly there’s Aurelian Besselβ€”everyone’s brooding and dramatic gay druid boy who pretends to not care at all about *ahem* a blue-eyed someone. Oh Aurelian, you’re not fooling anyone, except maybe that person.πŸ˜₯ This guy . . . he acts all grump and uncaring, but to find out the truth about the why behind it and know it’s because of that MONSTER…

I’m not being dramatic when I say that DEATH MUST COME FOR THAT MONSTER next book OR ELSEβ€”

Now I love those 4, but I have to say that Celadon Viridian was my favouriteeπŸ’• I wish he was a main character too because I’m so hopelessly in love with him. He is the sweetest and most caring cousin to Arlo. I really hope Ashley isn’t planning his death or anything . . . because I will be destroyed beyond repairπŸ˜“

Also, is it weird to say that I actually just adore one of the villains. (at least I’m pretty sure he’s a villain?) His plans are a little unclear and he’s protecting Arlo sooooo confusion

If he’s evil and all, well I still love him because he’s definitely a really cool villain😏 uh oh pretty soon im gonna be rooting for him too smh

“There’s a reason why the Lord of Death himself went out of his way to restrain me.”

yup, there’s definitely something wrong with me

As you can see, I’m very much in love with practically all the characters in this book (except for that retched monster ofc). Ahhh the one regret I have is reading this now, because now I have to wait until 2022 for the next book cries

Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1) by Richelle Mead | Review

I wasn’t free of my past, not yet.

Sydney’s blood is special. That’s because she’s an alchemist – one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets – and human lives. But the last encounter Sydney had with vampires got her in deep trouble with the other alchemists. And now with her allegiances in question, her future is on the line.

When Sydney is torn from her bed in the middle of the night, at first she thinks she’s still being punished for her complicated alliance with dhampir Rose Hathaway. But what unfolds is far worse. Jill Dragomir – the sister of Moroi Queen Lissa Dragomir – is in mortal danger, and the Moroi must send her into hiding. To avoid a civil war, Sydney is called upon to act as Jill’s guardian and protector, posing as her roommate in the unlikeliest of places: a human boarding school in Palm Springs, California. The last thing Sydney wants is to be accused of sympathizing with vampires. And now she has to live with one.

The Moroi court believe Jill and Sydney will be safe at Amberwood Prep, but threats, distractions, and forbidden romance lurk both outside – and within – the school grounds. Now that they’re in hiding, the drama is only just beginning.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

β€œTakes a lot of tries before you hit perfection.” He paused to reconsider that.

“Well, except for my parents. They got it on the first try.”

You are perfect. I love you, Adrian Ivashkov.

(jk jk I love Rose, but still…)

If you haven’t noticed already, this infuriating lovable goofball has my heart.πŸ₯Ί

I can’t believe there’s barely any fanart of the Adrian Ivashkov?!?! Adrian is worthy of all the fanart in the world.

No, no, no this is unacceptable.

(I shan’t rest until I see more fanart of Adrian)

Anyways, Bloodlines is actually the spin-off series to Vampire Academy and although you don’t have to read that first, I’d go there because the ending of VA is brought up here, so… spoilers and then there’s the references to VA/old characters, which is really just nice seeing them all again.πŸ₯°

You’ll also be able to understand Adrian and Sydney A LOT more, especially where they’re coming from. Adrian’s broken heart cries

I can’t imagine how one wouldn’t love him.

Now Sydney Sage is an Alchemistβ€”one of the few who actually know about vampires and make sure that humans know nothing about them… lest there be chaos. why does this word remind me of a certain chaotic group xD

Honestly what I love most about this is that Sydney is actually not the reckless, “kung-fu-pow” kind of heroine. She’s one of the NERDS who knows the most the random facts, doesn’t people well, and does homework/extra work for fun.

And she’s totally not some amazingly strong girl who can beat up anyone. She’s completely normal. (view spoiler)[or was at least, until that revelation… (hide spoiler)]

Not saying I hate the opposite of her traits, but it’s nice seeing relatable characters i used to like doing hw smh…not anymore who aren’t all powerful every once in awhile.

And yet despite being a genius, she’s very clueless when it comes to some stuff xD

“Do you know anything about silent films?”

“Sure,” I said. “The first ones were developed in the late nineteenth century and sometimes had live musical accompaniment, though it wasn’t until the 1920s that sound become truly incorporated into films, eventually making silent ones obsolete in cinema.”

Bryan gaped, as though that was more than he’d been expecting. “Oh. Okay. Well, um, there’s a silent film festival downtown next week. Do you think you’d want to go?”

I shook my head. “No, I don’t think so. I respect it as an art form but really don’t get much out of watching them.”

“Huh. Okay.” He smoothed his hair back again, and I could almost see him groping for thoughts. Why on earth was he asking me about silent films? “What about Starship 30? It opens Friday. Do you want to see that?”

“I don’t really like sci-fi either,” I said. It was true, I found it completely implausible.

Bryan looked ready to rip that shaggy hair out. “Is there any movie out there you want to see?”

I ran through a mental list of current entertainment. “No. Not really.”

Poor Bryan trying to ask her on date smh Sydney.

(Just replace Aladdin with Adrian and we’re good)

He’s arrogant, cocky, selfless, impulsive, brave, funny, hot . . . I could go on forever. I basically squealed every time he appeared or was mentioned. I want to kill someone every time someone thinks less of him because this guy deserves the world.πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜

His scenes were literally golden:

β€œThey’re waiting for you. Go on in.” Adrian leaned close to Keith’s ear and spoke in an ominous voice. β€œIf.You.Dare.” He poked Keith’s shoulder and gave a “Muhahaha” kind of monster laugh.”

He’s such a bully to Keith.πŸ˜ˆπŸ˜† I love it. Serves him right, that bastard …

Then there’s part 1 of Adrian in a job interviewπŸ˜πŸ˜‚

He shrugged. “I told the truth.”

“I’m serious. She asked me what my greatest strength was. I said getting along with people.”

“That’s not bad,” I admitted.

“Then she asked what my greatest weakness was. And I said, ‘Where should I start?'”

“Stop saying my name like that. I told her the truth. By the time I was on the fourth one, she told me I could go.”

And part 2:

He shrugged. “”How?” I demanded. “How could you have screwed this one up?”

“When I got in, they said the manager was on the phone and would be a few minutes. So, I sat down and ordered a drink.”

This time, I did lean my forehead against the steering wheel. “What did you order?”

“A martini.”

“A martini.” I lifted my head. “You ordered a martini before a job interview.”

“It’s a bar, Sage. I figured they’d be cool with it.”

Note to Sydney: Never set up job interviews for Adrian.πŸ’€

How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories (The Folk of the Air, #3.5) by Holly Black | Review

Once upon a time, there was a boy with a wicked tongue.

Before he was a cruel prince or a wicked king, he was a faerie child with a heart of stone. #1 New York Times bestselling author, Holly Black reveals a deeper look into the dramatic life of Elfhame’s enigmatic high king, Cardan. This tale includes delicious details of life before The Cruel Prince, an adventure beyond The Queen of Nothing, and familiar moments from The Folk of the Air trilogy, told wholly from Cardan’s perspective.

This new installment in the Folk of the Air series is a return to the heart-racing romance, danger, humor, and drama that enchanted readers everywhere. Each chapter is paired with lavish and luminous full-color art, making this the perfect collector’s item to be enjoyed by both new audiences and old.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

“So long as you’re begging,” he says.

YES I’m begging for more because THAT WAS TOO SHORT😭😭😭

This book was both everything and nothing at the same time. Everything because um it’s Cardan Greenbriar???πŸ₯°

Cardan’s inner thoughts.

Cardan in the mortal world.

Cardan drinking bubble tea.

Cardan eating dumplings.

Cardan just being Cardan.πŸ₯Ί

(by @noverantale)

But it also felt like nothing because the scenes I actually REALLY wanted to see weren’t there.😭

I mean who wants to see Cardan and Nicasia together?!?!?! I wanted more JURDAN moments.πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜ Instead there were like about 2-3(?) short stories on them out of 11???

My heart is very sad.😞 But I’m hoping this is Holly’s secret way of telling us that there will be more Cardan short stories (WITH JUDE) in the future….?

(by @sallteas)

Ah yes but I LOVED the stories Aslog would tell Cardan.πŸ˜‚ The lessons at the end . . . ahahaha definitely what you should tell kids at nighttime. I actually really liked them.

The Meet-Cute Project by Rhiannon Richardson | ARC Review

Thank you Simon & Schuster Canada for gifting me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before meets Save the Date in this sweet and hijinks-filled rom-com about a teen girl who will do whatever it takes to find a date for her sister’s wedding.

Mia’s friends love rom-coms. Mia hates them. They’re silly, contrived, and not at all realistic. Besides, there are more important things to worry aboutβ€”like how to handle living with her bridezilla sister, Sam, who’s never appreciated Mia, and surviving junior year juggling every school club offered and acing all of her classes.

So when Mia is tasked with finding a date to her sister’s wedding, her options are practically nonexistent.

Mia’s friends, however, have an idea. It’s a little crazy, a little out there, and a lot inspired by the movies they love that Mia begrudgingly watches too.

Mia just needs a meet-cute.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.

I swear to god if this got me into a slump I-

I haven’t felt like this since A Deal with the Elf King altho it hasn’t even been that long but this was a struggle.😣😭

Mia Hubbard is just your regular junior dealing with the stress of high school, while also being a competitive swimmer and hating rom-coms & romance (in general) with a passion .

But when her older sister, Sam, orders Mia to find a date to her upcoming wedding . . . well, now Mia is on the hunt for someone to go with and what better way to find one then to do a meet-cute? (of course her friends thought of that)

So it starts. The many meet-cutes that are set up between Mia and some other random guys. And of course the ✨drama✨.

Honestly, this probably wasn’t as bad as I make it sound and it was definitely a “me” thing, but I was very, very bored.😒 I usually enjoy contemporaries such as this, but I couldn’t really care that much about Mia and the rest of the cast.

And again, the romance was meh. I didn’t like the love interest, or more like . . . I didn’t care at all about him. He didn’t even appear that much compared to the other boys in the meet-cutes, which is funny bc you’d think Mia and him would have lots of encounters. Oh well.πŸ˜•

Also, I did NOT see at all how this was a “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before meets Save the Date” . I haven’t read ‘Save the Date’, so I don’t know about that but “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”??? Howww??? I don’t see how this in any way shape or form was related to that. * confusion *

But I did love the diversity in this book! Definitely give this a try if you love rom-coms, a large cast of diverse characters, and the strong bond between family and friends.

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1) by Sarah J. Mass | Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

roses are red
violets are blue
he gave away his heart
and it got broken into two

wow i came up with that all by myself. i’m such a poet.

ToG fans you know who I’m talking about.

SJM destroying our ships like the queen she isπŸ”₯

The fool who once shipped those two so much has learned her lesson.

(Oh Hisoka . . .)

I can’t believe that it’s been almost 3 years since I last read Throne of Glass and wow, did I forget a lot. And I called myself a ToG fan smh

Ahhh but I’m so happy I read The Assassin’s Blade because it made reading ToG so much more PAINFUL ENJOYABLE than the first time I read it!😭😍

Like I actually understood all the TAB references and it just felt so painful nice. I wasn’t a clueless buffoon who didn’t know about the 200 hundred slaves Celaena freed, why she didn’t trust having female friends, Arobynn being the bastard he is, and all the mentions of . . . sobs Sam Cortland.

“She hoped Elena wouldn’t speak of what her heart refused to remember, hoped that the queen wouldn’t mention what she had spent so long forgetting.”

Celaena Sardothienβ€”aka Adarlan’s Assassin just wow this girl is amazing and I love her. I mean I loved Celaena before, but after reading TAB, I could totally understand her so much more.πŸ₯Ί

All the loss, pain, and events she had to deal with at such a young age . . . damn, how does Sarah create such cool characters??? I seriously cannot think of one thing to hate about her. She’s definitely not perfect, but I still love this girl so much.😭

Plus the character development that’s coming in the next few books AHHH I’M SO READY haha except of course for what’s gonna trigger those developments * cries *

β€œHe was done with politics and intrigue. He loved her, and no empire, no king, and no earthly fear would keep him from her. No, if they tried to take her from him, he’d rip the world apart with his bare hands. And for some reason, that didn’t terrify him.”

Now our soft boi Dorian Havilliard β€”aka the Crown Prince of Adarlan. Nothing’s changed except that I like him more than before. This bookworm and puppy lover . . . how could anyone not like him??? don’t hate the puppy lover

The moments between him and Celaena were so sweet and hilarious gahhhh I shall miss those moments when all is not quite as peaceful as they were then.😒

β€œNo fair maiden should die alone,” he said, putting a hand on hers. β€œShall I read to you in your final moments? What story would you like?”

She snatched her hand back. β€œHow about the story of the idiotic prince who won’t leave the assassin alone?”

β€œOh! I love that story! It has such a happy ending, tooβ€”why, the assassin was really feigning her illness in order to get the prince’s attention! Who would have guessed it? Such a clever girl. And the bedroom scene is so lovelyβ€”it’s worth reading through all of their ceaseless banter!”

“Out! Out! Out! Leave me be and go womanize someone else!” She grabbed a book and chucked it at him.

β€œWith each day he felt the barriers melting. He let them melt. Because of her genuine laugh, because he caught her one afternoon sleeping with her face in the middle of a book, because he knew that she would win.”

AwwwwπŸ₯Ί Chaol Westfallβ€”aka Adarlanian Captain of the Royal Guard. I must say that I’ve forgotten how much I loved Chaol before everything else happened. The broody, scowling, guard we all knew and loved. or i mean…maybe I’ll love him again this time around…?

I lived for those scenes where Celaena and Chaol would be bickering.πŸ˜‚ Now let’s see if CoM will renew my hatred for him hehe xD

Honestly, what I loved most was that even though this was a re-read, it felt more like I was reading ToG for the first time bc it’s been so long and that’s what makes this so much better.

That feeling when you’re reading a book for the first time…I LOVE ITπŸ₯°

I seriously didn’t remember who the culprit was for the killings until it was revealed. I suspected almost everyone because I truly didn’t know even tho it rlly was obvious smh

I love this feeling. Makes me really excited to re-read the rest of this series! Ahhhhh so can’t wait to have my heart destroyed againπŸ˜ƒ

(On a side note . . . I just realized how tiring it’s gonna be writing a review for each book. yay)

β€œYou could rattle the stars,” she whispered. β€œYou could do anything, if you only dared. And deep down, you know it, too. That’s what scares you most.”

The Assassin’s Blade (Throne of Glass, #0.1-0.5) by Sarah J. Mass | Review

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Me before reading this: Why is everyone being so dramatic over this? I doubt it’s that bad . . .

Everyone else: Oh just you wait creepy smile emojis

I hate you guys.

I am broken.

I don’t know how to move on from thisβ€”NO actually, I will never be able to move on. THIS DESTROYED ME AND I DO NOT LIKE HAVING MY HEART CRUSHED AND STOMPED ON.

This will not at all be a proper review is it ever tho
This will consist of me screaming every time I say or THINK of him.😭😭😭
SO don’t expect much from me except for that

It’s been a little over 24 hours since I read that scene AND I CAN’T GET OVER IT.😩

Calm down, Lia. Calmm downnn.

Putting all my craziness aside, this was such a beautiful novella and I want to beat myself up for NOT READING IT SOONER. IM AN IDIOT.πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

And I’m currently rereading Throne of Glass right now and ohmygod . . . THERE ARE SO MANY REFERENCES TO TAB. The two hundred slaves freed, Ansel of Briarcliff, the Silent Assassins, and . . . Sam Cortland.

But omg rereading Throne of Glass right now I can actually appreciate/love Celaena way more than before especially after all she’s been through.πŸ₯Ί I love this girl so much.πŸ˜πŸ’ž

Now my journey going through these novellas:

✦ The Assassin and the Pirate Lord: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

✦ The Assassin and the Healer: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

✦ The Assassin and the Desert: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

✦ The Assassin and the Underworld: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

✦ The Assassin and the Empire: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Now excuse me while I listen to this SAMLAENA inspired song by Victoria Carbol and shrivel up and die. (Thank you Laura for destroying meπŸ˜ƒπŸ”«)

the ONE benefit that came out of this is that I’m no longer 5 books behind schedule
