“You want to make your life easier? Then be the caged bird that you are and sing.”
For ten years, I’ve lived in a gilded cage inside King Midas’s golden castle. But one night changed everything.
Now I’m here, a prisoner of Fourth Kingdom’s army, and I’m not sure if I’m going to make it out of this in one piece. They’re marching to battle, and I’m the bargaining chip that will either douse the fire or spark a war.
At the heart of my fear, my worry, there’s him—Commander Rip.
Known for his brutality on the battlefield, his viciousness is unsurpassed. But I know the truth about what he is.
The betrayers. The murderers. The ones who nearly destroyed Orea, wiping out Seventh Kingdom in the process. Rip has power sizzling beneath this skin and glinting spikes down his spine. But his eyes—his eyes are the most compelling of all.
When he turns those black eyes on me, I feel captive for an entirely different reason.
I may be out of my cage, but I’m not free, not even close. In the game of kings and armies, I’m the gilded pawn. The question is, can I out maneuver them?
This is the captivating second book of The Plated Prisoner series. It’s an adult epic fantasy story blending romance, intrigue, and beautiful imagery. Return to the seductive story of magic inspired by the myth of King Midas, and get caught up in the world of Orea.
Please note: There is explicit language and romance in this book, not suitable for those under the age of 18.
Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
“Sometimes things need first to be ruined in order to then be remade.”
After how the first book was, I so wasn’t expecting to love this so much?? And unlike Gild, this didn’t leave me feeling super uncomfortable and disturbed. I definitely enjoyed this a lot more.
And bonus! There was barely any Midas, so that was fun ❤
“There’s safety in loneliness, but there’s a lurking danger too. One that doesn’t come from anything other than yourself.”
Let me just start off by saying how much I loved the found family in thus just chef’s kiss it was so precious. I adored the new characters introduced and their interactions with Auren. Judd, Lu, Osrik, Keg, Rip—I need more of them please and thank you.
“Are people so content in ignorance that they’ll believe every lie fed to them, despite what they right in front of their eyes?”
The growth Auren went through from the beginning to the end was amazing. Although some realizations took awhile—of course I got where she was coming from😭 the frustration I felt… but when she finally opened her eyes, I so loved that moment. I’m excited to see her character develop even more from here on out and hopefully watch her deliver some pain towards cough certain bastards 🙂
“I hope you burn so bright that you scorch your Golden King down to ash.”
Commander Rip(yes, his name’s actually Rip💀 the way i wheezed bahaha was actually so sweet and how he pushed Auren to realize certain things about a certain person🥺 And just Rip challenging Auren and what she so strongly believed in before. He played such a huge impact on her and not in a jerk-ish way.
The slow burn was absolute torturee. There was barely any romance in this honestly like it wasn’t a huge focus, which I’m totally fine with since all this sets it up for the next book anyways. I need more Aurip content for sure.
I can see now as to why this is for fans of JLA and SJM. I got A Court of Mist and Fury and A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire vibes from this. ACOMAF with there being that one character who makes the mc realize some things & helps them with their trauma. AKOFAF with the traveling between places except it not taking 600 pages for that to happen. There are probably other similarities but my brain’s not working right now so whoops ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Overall, I loved this wayyy more than Gild obviously like the new friendships, banter, and character development was just so good. The reason this didn’t get 5 stars though is because the Malina chapters were boring and I could care less about her💀
Oh but my biggest complaint is that the bastard didn’t die 😦

This was definitely a character driven book and I was here for it all the way.
^^ basically Emilia in KotC cackles
“Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven.”
After the betrayals and shocking revelations in Kingdom of the Wicked, Emilia is even more determined to find her sister’s murderer—no matter what bargains she must make… even if it means doing the forbidden.
With all of that, she must also deal with her conflicted feelings towards a certain hot demon prince. Is it lust? More lies? Or something more? Either way, Emilia must not fall for his charms and demonic influence.
But I mean, who can resist a demon prince??? certainly not me
“I may have been foolish before, but, thank the goddess, I was learning quickly.”
Okay but like Emilia was such a queen in this book. I loved her already in KotW BUT HERE??? Her character development was spectacular sdfgdfs my love literally went📈📈 She’s not as naïve as she was in the 1st book and now is soo cunning with her schemes, it makes me cackle in delight.
And after that ending??? No words will ever be able to express how hyped I am to see certain events play out. Emilia is on a very intriguing path and I definitely can’t say I don’t love it. For so long, Emilia’s been struggling with doing what’s right and avenging her sister—doing all of that alone. With demons everywhere. In Hell.
I don’t know how this girl’s able to deal with all of that and not lose her mind. Emilia needs a hug🥺
“Every villain thinks themselves the hero. And vice versa. In truth, there’s a little villain and hero in each of us. Depending on the circumstances.”
Oh Wrath, how my love grew for you but also declined. There were so many precious and wholesome moments between Wrath and Emilia omg it made me swoooon. And then Emilia has the audacity to say she wishes her “real life” was a romance novel- pain That hit hard😭
Like Wrath taking care of Emilia when she was suffering from hypothermia?? Wrath feeding Emilia chocolate-covered berries?? I’M JEALOUS.
But unfortunately, I do have to say that Wrath disgusted me at one point in the novel iykyk and though he learned from those mistakes and went to great extent to redeem himself—apologizing and following without question orders given by Emilia, I don’t 100% forgive him. It’ll probably take awhile tbh, but hopefully the 3rd book will clear up all of that for me.
“Fate may deal its hand, try encouraging our path or intervene, but we are ultimately free to choose our own destiny. Never doubt that.”
The new characters interactions that were in this book!! I absolutely adored it. Anir and Emilia’s friendship was so sweet ugh I love them so much. The training and conversations they had together were amazingg, but Fauna and Emilia’s conversations were definitely god tier – omg the things they said wheeze
The best interactions though were the ones between Emilia and the other Princes of Hell. I wish we could’ve learned and seen more of them :(( Like for a book set in Hell, they barely made much appearances and the three that we did get to see… were pretty brief, so that was a little disappointing.
Pride intrigues me so much, there’s definitely more to him than meets the eye. The same goes for Envy and maybe even Gluttony sdfsfsgfs I really want to know their true motives like they’re such interesting characters ughh the questions I have are killing me. Even with these princes not appearing as much as I hoped, AT LEAST I GOT TO SEE A DRUNK ENVY. Now that is something I’ll never forget anytime soon.
Anyways next book – petition for more Princes of Hell.
“All legends contain fragments of truth.”
I’m proud to say that I guessed one of the major plot twists yes ik practically everyone guessed it too but shhh let me savor this !! THE OTHER PLOT TWIST THOUGH??? I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING. AND THEN KERRI ENDING IT THAT WAY??? That is so cruel sobbing I flipped the page expecting there to be another page and then see “Acknowledgements” staring back at me-
We thought the ending of KotW was cruel?? laughs She definitely showed us what “cruel” really is. I’m in pain knowing that we have an agonizing year ahead of us to see how this concludes.
I wish I could’ve given this 5 stars – especially with how excited I was for KotC – but I can’t deny that I didn’t love it as much as I did with KotW. And like I’m always a sucker for romance, which is exactly what this had more of than the 1st book yet I still love KotW more. I’m thinking it might be the mood I’m currently in, but this just didn’t give me the same feelings I got with the first book. Of course, I definitely still enjoyed this and am so ready for the next book!
Words of Radiance, Book Two of the Stormlight Archive, continues the immersive fantasy epic that The Way of Kings began.
Expected by his enemies to die the miserable death of a military slave, Kaladin survived to be given command of the royal bodyguards, a controversial first for a low-status “darkeyes.” Now he must protect the king and Dalinar from every common peril as well as the distinctly uncommon threat of the Assassin, all while secretly struggling to master remarkable new powers that are somehow linked to his honorspren, Syl.
The Assassin, Szeth, is active again, murdering rulers all over the world of Roshar, using his baffling powers to thwart every bodyguard and elude all pursuers. Among his prime targets is Highprince Dalinar, widely considered the power behind the Alethi throne. His leading role in the war would seem reason enough, but the Assassin’s master has much deeper motives.
Brilliant but troubled Shallan strives along a parallel path. Despite being broken in ways she refuses to acknowledge, she bears a terrible burden: to somehow prevent the return of the legendary Voidbringers and the civilization-ending Desolation that will follow. The secrets she needs can be found at the Shattered Plains, but just arriving there proves more difficult than she could have imagined.
Meanwhile, at the heart of the Shattered Plains, the Parshendi are making an epochal decision. Hard pressed by years of Alethi attacks, their numbers ever shrinking, they are convinced by their war leader, Eshonai, to risk everything on a desperate gamble with the very supernatural forces they once fled. The possible consequences for Parshendi and humans alike, indeed, for Roshar itself, are as dangerous as they are incalculable.

Another masterpiece by the King of High Fantasy😌
I finished this faster than I did for The Way of Kings and I didn’t even think that was possible. So me finishing this 1087 page book in 2 days should definitely tell you something about my love for Words of Radiance.
“All stories told have been told before. We tell them to ourselves, as did all men who ever were. And all men who ever will be. The only things new are the names.”
While The Way of Kings was basically Kaladin’s book, Words of Radiance was most certainly Shallan’s and I also didn’t even think it was possible to love her more than I already do, but it was.
Reading about Shallan’s past and the secrets she’s kept—omg it’s all so suffocating. In WoR, we see the lies Shallan tells to herself and others… these lies she will eventually have to confront if she has any hope in moving forward.
There’s so much darkness in Shallan’s life and seeing how broken she is, yet still being able to smile so brightly and find some happiness… I’m sorry, can you hear my heart breaking?? Shallan, my beautiful broken girl, I love you.😭 Please don’t lock away all this pain and let it consume you.

🛑minor spoilers below🛑
“I seek the truth,” Shallan said. “Wherever it may be, whoever may hold it. That’s who I am.”
Okay, but Shallan playing spy and infiltrating the Ghostbloods was something I never knew I needed in my life.🥺
Is it weird to say that I actually really love like the Ghostbloods?? Like they’re pretty cool. I actually think I have a villain crush on Mraize although, is he really a villain? Their motives are still not clear and they don’t seem to be really that evil so not a villain in my eyes yet. Honestly, majority of the antagonists here aren’t really evil, it’s not black and white, it’s grey. For the most part their goals are understandable, it’s just the way they go about it being quite concerning. It’s more that they lack morality, but anyways I love how Sanderson does this and while I still do hate some of these people, I can understand some of the actions they take.
“The truth destroys more people than it saves.”
I’m literally OBSESSED with the Ghostbloods. It’s really concerning??? I pray for more of them. I NEED more of them. One of the higlights of this book was Shallan’s interactions with the Ghostbloods and omg I loved that. Mraize was said to be rarely impressed by anything but was impressed by what Shallan could do??🥺 Curse my love for this group.
I hate Sanderson for putting a thought into my head, when I know it’s highly unlikely that it’ll happen sobs I can’t stop imagining how amazing it would be if Shallan actually joined the Ghostbloods and found her own Bridge Four?? I barely know anything about these people—literally at the most only 100 pages out of 1087 did these guys appear—and their motives, but I just find them so cool😭 This super mysterious organization that is also very protective of one another and Also, even their group name sounds epic?? The ✨Ghostbloods✨
Anyways, I’d love it if something like Shallan joining their ranks were to magically happen, but I know it won’t 😦 wow, this really became a Ghostblood fangirling session
“What separates the heroes from the villains? One speech in the night.”
Surprisingly, Dalinar actually really annoyed me in this. I understood the situation he was in and the reasons behind some things, but at the same time it pissed me off the way he’d ignore and treat Kaladin’s claims of a certain bastard.
“I believe an apology is due.”
↪ THAT will forever be one of my favourite scenes omg. if you know, you know👀
“That was why he’d come back. It was about Tien, it was about Dalinar, and it was about what was right—but most of all, it was about protecting people. This was the man he wanted to be.”
Kaladin is as amazing and heartbreaking as ever. Even after saving Bridge Four, he is still not at peace with everything that’s happened to him and that’s definitely understandable sobs There’s still a deep burning hatred and vengeance floating in his mind totally don’t blame him for having I’m honestly surprised at the amount of restraint he had in certain situations… I could never.
Kaladin’s character development is spectacular and I can so tell that this is only the beginning of it. He still suffers with depression and trauma from these last few years and throughout the book, he goes through so many challenges…it’s amazing. He makes mistakes, but he learns. His growth in WoR is one of my favourite parts here and omg his interactions with Shallan and Adolin were golden.
“He saw it in her eyes. The anguish, the frustration. The terrible nothing that clawed inside and sought to smother her. She knew. It was there, inside. She had been broken.
Then she smiled. Oh, storms. She smiled anyway.
It was the single most beautiful thing he’d seen in his entire life.”
The chasm scene was so, so precious. I actually started crying, my heartt-
“Kaladin frowned. “Wait. Are you wearing cologne? In prison?”
“Well, there was no need to be barbaric, just because I was incarcerated.”
“Storms, you’re spoiled,” Kaladin said, smiling.
“I’m refined, you insolent farmer,” Adolin said. Then he grinned. “Besides, I’ll have you know that I had to use cold water for my baths while here.”
Then the prison scene ohmygod my heart was so happy😭 I love Adolin and Kaladin’s growing friendship so much. And that one scene where they fought together omg sdfgdfdgds it was amazing
“Honor is dead.”
Speaking of Adolin, that brings me to my OTP—Shallan and Adolin.🥺 Look at these two and tell me they aren’t just one of the most adorable ships ever created???
I was living for their scenes. Like I literally had this ridiculous, goofy smile on my face every time those two interacted with each other. And the amount of times I reread those scenes… oh god why are they so cute??
Adolin believing that Shallan had come to the fighting grounds to watch him train, but being totally wrong and looking like a fool in front of Kaladin??? Perfection.
Shallan asking the most random questions—one of them being how do the Shardbearers, specifically Adolin, use the bathroom in their Shardbearers in the middle of long battles?? Adolin’s response omg I was wheezing.😭🤚
And then there was Adolin’s shocked face when Shallan kissed his cheek🥺 (Alethi are more reserved when it comes to showing affection bahaha) SO CUTE, I CAN’T. I’m so hyped for their future scenes omg and now I’m terrified that Sanderson will do something to them sobs please, no.
ALSO WIT OMG WIT, I LOVE YOU. Dare I say that he’s my favourite character despite his minimal appearances??? His scenes are always so good omg one of my favourites:
Kaladin prepared to swing up into the seat beside the carriage driver, then stopped. “You!” he said, pointing at the driver. “Me!” the King’s Wit replied from where he sat holding the reins.
Adolin climbed out to await her, straightening his jacket, polishing the buttons on one sleeve. He glanced up towards the driver’s seat, then started. “You!” Adolin exclaimed. “Me!” Wit replied. He swung down from the top of the carriage and performed a flowery bow.
She suddenly started, eyes widening. She pointed at Wit with her freehand. “You!” Shallan exclaimed. “Yes, yes. People certainly are very good at identifying me today. Perhaps I need to wear—”
I can’t stop laughing ohmygod why is Wit so amazing?? I NEED MORE WIT.
“Try not to flirt with the girl,” Wit whispered. “Young Adolin seems to be growing possessive. Or…what am I saying? Flirt with the girl, Kaladin. It might make the prince’s eyes bulge.”
I’d say Wit “please marry me” but I’m sure if I was in his presence for even 5 seconds, I’d want to kill him so I’ll just stay over here and laugh at him making fun of the others😌
Anyways, it seems that even though I was preparing to love this, there was still so much I wasn’t expecting like falling in love with the Ghostbloods But anyways, I’m officially obsessed with this seriesand the Ghostbloods and this obsession scares me because I know once I catch up to the series, I’m going to have one of the worst book hangovers ever.
ahh I can’t wait for Oathbringer to destroy me and my poor heart✌
All hail Queen Nesta and SJM for making me love her so much
My favourite ACOTAR book by far
I don’t know what to do with myself now.
Like actually, I think I’m gonna be in a book hangover for weeks— no, months omg I cannot. This has to be the most times I’ve ever cried in a book I swear to god I’m still crying right now.
From the beginning of the book to the end…even the acknowledgments, all of it destroyed me. My heart—
This has been said many times, but I love you so much Sarah. Sarah, my queen. Sarah, my goddess. My love for SJM will never cease to exist.

“Everyone deserves happiness. The road there isn’t easy. It is long, and hard, and often travelled utterly blind. But you keep going.
Because you know the destination will be worthwhile.”
This is Nesta’s special journey. Nesta’s journey through dealing with her trauma. Struggling with the pain she’s been in and healing. Finding the ability to love herself.
I didn’t think SJM could write a better book for mental health than ACOMAF, but I believe right here, she did exactly that. There wasn’t a single scene where I didn’t feel like my heart was breaking.
This was such an emotional ride. I could actually relate to Nesta and while it isn’t as severe as her, there are times where I’d also hate myself and feel like I deserve nothing. And seeing Nesta deal with all of this — it broke me in so many ways. To have her in so much pain and think that she herself has to change in order to be “fixed”… ohmygod no I swear I cant.😭🤚
Then there was Cassian. I love how he wouldn’t give up on Nesta and even while trying to help her, he still didn’t let her get away with everything. He kept reaching out his hand throughout it all. But in the end, the only person who could heal Nesta was Nesta herself.
You can help someone as much as you want, but at the end of all that, it’s up to them to see past that darkness and find the light. To love themselves and be happy with who they are.
To heal the parts of you that hurt so much and hurt others.
im crying again dammit This book hit me so hard. I’m actually such a mess. I never thought I could love a book this much. Not surprised it was Queen SJM that did this to me.
I will never forget the impact Nesta’s story had on me. There’s no doubt that I’ll be rereading this so many times in the future. Already I feel like rereading. My god, what has she done to me sobs is this what love feels like?

She would not be mastered by anything again. She was the master of herself.
I know I talked about Nesta already but seriously she’s such a queen. Cassian wasn’t the only one there for her. We’re introduced to new characters in this book and I love it. Honestly, it had to be my favourite part of her story.
Nesta’s friendship with Emerie and Gwyn was so, so, so wholesome and sweet. Each of them had their own past that haunted them and were afraid for the other to find out. But that’s exactly what made them fit so well together. That moment where they all shared their secrets with each other, realizing that the other wouldn’t be judging them…I cried so much not surprising omg it was so beautiful to see them open up.
Their love for each other was tested especially when they had to participate in The Blood Rite. I was so shook, I actually didn’t think they’d be doing it, but ohmygod that was so stressful. I was terrified SJM would destroy me again and kill Emerie or Gwyn. Thank god she took pity on our poor hearts.
Also, omg them training to be Valkyries dsfdsfgd YES YES YES. I LOVED that so much. And to see them in action during The Blood Rite against those bastards??? Perfection.but also really stressful bc my gurls🥺 ALSO THE FRIENDSHIP BRACELETS OHMYGOD I CANNOT. HEARTBREAKING AND BEAUTIFUL.
I legit hope Gwyn and Emerie play bigger roles in the next two books, especially ahem because I have some ships in mind.😏 Yes, I may be too early but I believe in EmeriexMor and AzrielxGwyn🙏

“The first time I saw that look on your face, you were still human. Still human, and I nearly went to my knees before you.”
Tell me, what’s one of the most heartbreaking scenes you’ve ever read?
I’ll tell you mine — CHAPTER 50. That was so heart-wrenching, my heart died. My own sisters were looking at me like I was insane. But something even more heartbreaking?
That completely and utterly destroyed me. I was dying on the inside. Just thinking about him crying, is making me cry. I swear to god, I literally put my heart through torture reading this.
Seeing through Cassian’s POV is the greatest gift we could’ve asked for. All the flaws and insecurities he feels, I’m in so much p a i n. I adore him even more than before. He was there for Nesta and Nesta was there for him, my heart-
“Forgiveness is not that easy.”
“Forgiveness is something we also grant ourselves. And I can talk to you until these mountains crumble around us, but if you don’t wish to be forgiven, if you don’t want to stop feeling this way…it won’t happen.”
Hello? Please stop destroying me. Please, Cas.
“You don’t need to become some impossible ideal. You don’t need to become sweet and simpering. You can give everyone that I Will Slay My Enemies look—which is my favourite look, by the way. You can keep that sharpness I like so much, that boldness and fearlessness. I don’t want you to ever lose things, to cage yourself.”
STOP. THE. PAIN. * cries * Cas, when did you become so wise and give such heart crushing speeches?? This is one of the most beautiful lines I’ve ever read. No question about it.
Also, to finally find out what was in the solstice gift Cassian wanted to give Nesta — it was A BOOK. Okay imma stop right there, I’m crying again. I cant do this.🥺😭
(And Azzy & Nesta’s friendship…sobs beautiful. HE GAVE HER A FAELIGHT FOR READING AS A SOLSTICE GIFT. PLEASE, MY HEART-)

“That’s the key, isn’t it? To know the darkness will always remain, but how you choose to face it, handle it…that’s the important part. To not let it consume. To focus upon the good, the things that fill you with wonder.”
“The struggle with that darkness is worth it, just to see such things.”
Am I really dedicating a whole section to The House of Wind? Yes, yes I am.
I absolutely love Nesta, but my god The House of Wind is the BEST part of this book. Absolutely amazing and kind. I didn’t I could love a house so much, but here I am.
Nesta wished for a friend and the House became that friend for her. It encouraged her to do more, pushed her to try more. The House reads romance novels. I’m crying, I love the House so much. And the darkness that swirled at the bottom of the library?? I can’t believe that was the heart of the House ohmygod please I love it. The way Nesta accepted the way it was, just like the House did that for her…sdfgdsfs I’m in pain. sobs too much for my heart.
AND IT GAVE NESTA CHOCOLATE CAKE AND ROMANCE BOOKS. What’s not to love about the House??? woah wait, why is this reminding me of celaena with her love of chocolate cake and books shook
The House of Wind is e v e r y t h i n g.

“I went into the Cauldron, too, you know. And it captured me. And yet somehow all you think of is what my trauma did to you.“
(This is Nesta’s book, but I just have to say this.)
I’m guilty of this too, but I think most of us hated Elain because of how we saw her, being sweet, kind and useless…and judged her right away, forgetting that she also is still suffering going into the Cauldron and with what happened in the war against Hybern.
Just like Nesta, Elain has a different way of showing her trauma and that’s by hiding it away and making it look like she’s okay, using the image everyone thinks of her being–sweet and kind. It’s just like we all think of her and hate her for that. Everyone expects Elain to be one thing, so she acts like that BUT is that truly Elain?
So yeah, I judged her too early. (Feysand’s POV really helped with this too) I shouldn’t hate her right away because there’s still her story to be told. I’m actually excited to see that.
But even knowing all of this, I still don’t like Elain.🤷♀️ I understand it and everything but just something about her rubs me off the wrong way. I don’t hate her, but I don’t like her either. I have no doubt Sarah will make us love, or at the very least, like Elain next book.
Also, I seriously do not ship her with Azriel.
I believe Azriel and Gwyn would be such a beautiful pair ohmygod I’d love that so much. If the three brothers get with the three archeron sisters…no no no, please no. And I absolutely love the Azriel POV. My heart is hurting so much for Azzy🥺 He needs the love he deserves.
Omg every time he’d appear as the “chaperone” for Nesta and Cassian–omg I was dying of laughter. I loved those scenes. Poor Azzy having to deal with Nesta and Cas, tsk tsk naughty Fae. But the friendship between Nesta and Azzy ohmygod my heart, im crying it was so beautiful. Azzy have Nesta
Also, something else as to why I think AzrielxElain wont be endgame is because during the solstice dance, both Cas and Eris talk about how smothered/plain Elain is wearing black, which I feel like is SJM’s way of saying that Elain isn’t compatible with The Night Court and it’s darkness & shadows. ahhh I truly feel like she’s going to go to another court in the next book.
Also Azzy’s shadows disappear when they’re around Elain. Meanwhile, the shadows dont disappear around Gwyn…they come alive around her. I don’t know about you, but it looks like SJM is trying to say something👀 I stan Gwynriel
“I am the rock against which the surf crashes.”
“Nothing can break me.”
AND THE FACT THAT AZZY SINGS AND GWYN SINGS SDFGSDFD I CANT😭🤚

“I’ll deny it to the grave if you tell anyone, but I missed you too, Cursebreaker.”
Helion is amazing sdfgdsfsdf I love him so much. I think we can all agree with needing more Helion these next few books. And for Lucien to find out the truth🥺 We need a Lucien book so bad omg so many books needed.
I’m so curious as to what really was going on when Nesta asked about Jurian & Vassa and Lucien replied sharply HMM I may be reading too much into that, but something’s going on ughhh I wanna know more about those three.
ALSO, ERIS. There is SO MUCH MORE to Eris then is shown. I really want to see more Eris and his story. I believe there’s a lot more to him and Cas even sees that he’s a decent guy.
Oh, another thing I forgot to mention was the fact that Nesta Made three magic weapons and one of them she named the sword Ataraxia, which means Inner Peace…I’m in love. I stan Nesta so much. She grew to be so much stronger than she was before annnnnd the tears are coming in again.😃✌
This reminds me of Feyre and Nesta’s relationship. sobs It brings me joy to see the two finally understand and show their love for each other. No matter what, Feyre wouldn’t give up on her either. She tried so hard to help Nesta and I love Feyre so much for that. Unlike cough some people cough Rhysand. I actually despised him at one point in the novel, it was so messed up. I don’t love him anymore, but I’m glad everything’s good between Nesta and Rhys now.
Although, I have to say that when Nesta apologized to everyone it irked me. Like yeah, she did say harmful things to them, but the Inner Circle did too?? Honestly, they should’ve apologized too, mainly Rhys and Amren but ah, that didn’t happen rage they should grovel at her feet.
Those last few chapters had crying with them so much ohmygod even though I knew Rhys and Feyre wouldn’t die sdfgdsfg TALK ABOUT STRESSFUL. To see them all in so much pain and fear broke me so much.
Their baby boy’s name is Nyx — please erase my feelings. So beautiful that ending. Dark haired, blue eyed Nyx.🥺 I’m crying god.
(Okay I’ll stop being an emotional mess.)

(Okay, NOW I’ll stop)
All in all, this was absolutely perfect in my eyes. minus the too much smut Sarah has once again made me fall in love with her book and now I don’t know what to do with my life.
I pray that the next book is about Az and I’m hoping that it comes out next year.
Thank you, Sarah, for creating this beautiful and inspiring story.
In the beginning And in the end There was Darkness And nothing more.
We Are the Fire by Sam Taylor Published by: Swoon Reads Publication date: February 16th 2021 Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult
As electrifying as it is heartbreaking, Sam Taylor’s explosive fantasy debut We Are the Fire is perfect for fans of An Ember in the Ashes and the legend of Spartacus.
In the cold, treacherous land of Vesimaa, children are stolen from their families by a cruel emperor, forced to undergo a horrific transformative procedure, and serve in the army as magical fire-wielding soldiers. Pran and Oksana―both taken from their homeland at a young age―only have each other to hold onto in this heartless place.
Pran dreams of one day rebelling against their oppressors and destroying the empire; Oksana only dreams of returning home and creating a peaceful life for them both.
When they discover the emperor has a new, more terrible mission than ever for their kind, Pran and Oksana vow to escape his tyranny once and for all. But their methods and ideals differ drastically, driving a wedge between them. Worse still, they both soon find that the only way to defeat the monsters that subjugated them may be to become monsters themselves.
At the tower, the messenger led them through the metal doors with iron bars twisted in the shape of a leaping fire demon, the same demon fronting the Tuliis’ uniforms and tattooed onto the messengers’ necks. They climbed three flights of spiraling stairs and stepped into an office where [Commander] Tamm, seated behind a wide steel desk, pointed to a pair of wrought-iron chairs across from her. “Have a seat. Would you care for coffee? We’ve all had a long night.”
Pran had lost count of how many times he’d seen this game from Tamm, opening meetings with pleasantries whether she intended to praise or punish. It kept Tuliis on edge, and even he couldn’t help the way his heart tightened over what might follow. He perched on the offered seat, stretching out his leg, which throbbed after all those stairs—would it kill the Commanders to meet with him on the first floor?—and accepting the cup of coffee Tamm offered. But he didn’t drink it, and neither did Oksana as she settled into the next chair, watching Tamm as if the woman were a viper coiling to strike.
“I confess, Nayar,” the Commander said, dumping sugar and cream into her own cup, “I was astonished to see you in the courtyard. Foul shape you were in, when you returned.”
“All Tuliikobrets were summoned to the courtyard, and I follow every order.”
“I trust you’ll extend that same diligence to your next role.” Tamm took a long swallow of coffee. “We need more trainers. Better trainers.”
“T-trainers?” Before they could rattle in his hand, Pran set his cup and saucer on the desk, because trainers meant— “Congratulations are in order.” Tamm beckoned behind them, and another messenger swooped into the room carrying two tunics, the leather demons on them a harsh orange. The messenger gave these to Pran and Oksana, along with long-handled flint starters.
“Welcome to Hellion rank,” Tamm said. “Effective immediately, you are reassigned to the Bronze Bonfire troop. After your commendable attempts tonight to stop the Scarlet Embers . . . Well, we need Tuliikobrets of your caliber in leadership roles. We must instill in young fighters the importance of following commands. Even when it’s painful.” She glanced blatantly at his bad leg.
What the Commanders needed, really, was to replace the Hellions they’d just cooked alongside the Embers. Hellions were young Tuliis’ first instructors, training them to become emotionless puppets who burned on command.
They did as expected of loyal Tuliikobrets. And if he and Oksana wanted to walk out of this tower alive, they’d embrace this new role.
Beside him, Oksana said nothing, her face a blank mask. But the tips of her ears had gone as red as her hair, as they did whenever she was barely holding herself together. But maybe, Pran considered, this new rank didn’t have to be a snare that entangled them further in the Commanders’ power. Maybe they could craft it into something else.
About the Author:
Sam Taylor grew up in Arizona’s deserts and now lives among Connecticut’s trees. She spends her days writing, being mom to the world’s cutest boys, whirling through dance workouts, and baking too many cakes. She does not possess fire magic, but does have one fire-colored cat. We Are the Fire is her debut novel.
She is the greatest assassin her world has ever known. But does she have the heart of a killer?
After a year of hard labor in the Salt Mines of Endovier, eighteen-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien has won the king’s contest to become the new royal assassin. But Calaena is far from loyal to the crown. Keeping up the charade – while pretending to do the king’s bidding – will test her skills in an entirely new way. And it certainly isn’t the only point of confusion for the young girl. Because though she’s made her choice between Dorian and Chaol, the ways of the heart are never simple…
Rating: 4 out of 5.
okay, so I actually don’t hate Chaol??? Like before this reread I totally did, but now I don’t. shook
out of curiosity, does anyone actually like him?
ahaha I do get the feeling that I’m going to remember why I hated him once I reread QoS but maybe I won’t…? Until then.

“The best lies were always mixed with truth.”
After winning the title of the King’s Champion through a deadly tournament, Celaena Sardothien is now doing the king’s dirty work tasks, while being silently judged by the others a.k.a. Dorian, Chaol and Nehemia. Little do they know she’s not actually…going through with these ‘tasks’.
For the king to discover would mean death — death for her and for Chaol.
Chaol, whom she harbors ~feelings~ for.
The question is, will she be able to keep up this charade?

“Why are you crying?” “Because,” she whispered, her voice shaking, “you remind me of what the world ought to be. What the world can be.”
I definitely loved Celaena way more in this book than the first — but it was mostly after part 2 that I did…for reasons you’ll know if you read the book. She was a lot more savage there where in the first part she was more like a lovesick fool. (not that that’s bad of course)
After the halfway mark, I was cackling like a maniac when I saw how bloodthirsty she was. Totally cheering her on, especially when she tortured said people that deserved it. what does that say about me? hmmm
This scene was one of my favourites ohmygod im wheezing-
“Then Celaena and the King of Adarlan smiled at each other, and it was the most terrifying thing Dorian had ever seen.”
But with all of that, she was also in p a i n. And Celaena in pain = me in pain.
And this is just the beginning — I don’t remember much of this series, but I remember enough of HoF to know that I’m gonna have to be preparing myself for the feels.
Ready for the sobbing.😃🔫

“And he deserved someone who would look at him like that, even if the love wouldn’t be the same, even if the girl wouldn’t be her.
So Dorian closed his eyes, and took another long breath. And when he opened his eyes, he let her go.”
I’m trying to figure out why I didn’t like Dorian before, but I honestly don’t remember.
Dorian is such a cinnamon roll.
Like I was meh on him before but no omg I love him and I now see why everyone loves him. Even though this is a reread, I never realized how amazing he is. How could I not have loved him??? smh
He’s so sweet and the way him and Celaena were so cold and distant from each other in the beginning — sobs heartbreaking. I will never forget how SJM destroyed that ship in the first book.
And even after the way Celaena treated him in the first half, he was there for her in the 2nd half and that is just ughhhh he’s so sweet. I want more Dorian 😦

“There had never been any line between them, only his own stupid fear and pride.
Because from the moment he’d pulled her out of that mine in Endovier and she had set those eyes upon him, still fierce despite a year in hell, he’d been walking toward this, walking to her.
And now finally, Chaol. 🛑There will be SPOILERS from this book🛑
My feelings for Chaol are bit complicated right now. It doesn’t help that I literally remember almost nothing from this series, only bits and pieces. I hated Chaol before rereading — I didn’t remember why, but I remembered that I just did.
So for like the first half of this book that hatred did not change. I was so not cheering for the romance between Celaena and Chaol like no, no, no. Just no.
And then he gets kidnapped, Celaena saves him and there she finds out that he kept the secret that the king was going to be talking with Nehemia. Nehemia dies, Celaena blames Chaol, I blame Chaol.
But I forgot that Chaol wasn’t actually at fault. I didn’t remember that the king didn’t kill Nehemia. IT WAS ARCHER. shook why did I not remember that???
Anyways, so really the only bad thing Chaol did in the end was keep away from telling Celaena that the kill was going to talk to Nehemia, and probably kill her anyways if that happened.
BUT I mean, you can’t really fault him that he kept a secret that the king told him not to tell anyone else. He has been sworn to the king for basically all his life?
Still, that doesn’t excuse that he kept that from the person he supposedly claimed to love. ehhh idk but it’s not surprising considering Chaol’s personality. So yeah, I don’t hate him, but I don’t love him either. (I’m gonna probably want to kill him in QoS)
Although I was laughing so hard to his reaction finding out that Celaena was Aelin AHAHAHA sucker.
damn wow, so I ended up writing so much about Chaol
I’m so so excited to reread Heir of Fire ahhh ROWANN HERE I COME. ALTHOUGH I DIDN’T LIKE YOU MUCH. I wonder how I’ll find him this time around.
I want a hot demon prince Wrath for myself, please and thank you.😏🖤
Nonna gave many warnings to guard thy heart from the Wicked, but the endeavor was futile…….
It was stolen anyways.🥺altho is it really any surprise that happened?
I LOVED Kerri’s SJTR series, so the second I finished it and heard that she was making another series set in a world of demons, witches, and with an enemies-to-lovers trope—oh I just knew that I’d fall in love.🥰
AND WRATH DID THAT TO ME.
Emilia di Carlo leads a perfectly normal life at least, as normal as you could get being a witch and all with her twin, Vittoria , her parents, and Nonna, helping around and about at the family restaurant, Sea & Vines(omg the descriptions of the food was just mouth-watering).
Sure, they all have to hide the fact that they’re witches lest they be burned to the stake by others (ha doesn’t sound bad at all), but other than that, everything’s as good as it can be.
Until, one night—Emilia stumbles upon a horrifying scene. Her sister. Murdered. Heart torn out and all. shudder
Yeah……that obviously didn’t go well with Emilia.😢 Heartbroken and hell-bent on revenge, she begins her journey in solving the mystery behind Vittoria’s death, and will go to any length to avenge her. Even use dark magic and accidently summon one of the demon princes of Hell—Wrath😈.
Starting to feel like I’m mentioning him too much haha
“There are victors and victims. Decide who you want to be. Or the choice will be made for you, witch. And I doubt you’ll like it.”
I threw my head back and groaned. “It’s a game of scopa, not a battle between life and death. Are you always this dramatic?”
Ahhh this is just one of many hilarious conversations between Emilia and Wrath.🤣 Their constant bickering was one of my favourite parts xD honestly, just seeing Wrath made me happy.
Emilia was once the quiet and “I-avoid-trouble” kind of girl, but once the death of her twin occurs, she goes through some major character development and is forced to take risks she would’ve never done before. I do love how most people could probably relate to that not the death causing character development part. I myself am always afraid to take a step out of my comfort zone, for fear I’ll fail/do terrible.
With Emilia, she would constantly take new risks, and even when she did fail, at least she’d eventually get back up again and continue to grow. It’s a nice motivator for those who fear trying new things at least for me haha. That’s what I loved most about Emilia.🥰
And then there’s Wrath. It was love at first sight meeting Wrath.🥺😍 You can always count me in when it comes to tall, dark, and handsome demon princes—especially the suspicious ones😆. So many secrets…….but you still can’t help but love Wrath at least I couldn’t. (ahhhh and the candle scene was just so sweet <3)
xD I’ve said this many times, but I really should never be a detective in charge of a murder scene. I’d get fired on the first day.😂 I just can never guess right when it comes to who the culprit is I’m not even close. I saw that some others who read KotW say that it was pretty predictable, but I was honestly just shocked and didn’t even think of suspecting a certain someone.
Ahhhh yes, I’m a very bad mystery solver.😎 Note-to-self: Don’t trust my judgement on characters when it comes plots with mysteries involved.
asdfghjkl it felt like centuries waiting for Kingdom of the Wicked to come out and now I have wait another few centuries for the next book.😭😭😭
My only complaint with this book would be that it felt waaaay too short. Maybe a little too fast-paced? But it’s not really a big deal, it’s more of “I wish it lasted longer” feeling. I want more Emilia and Wrath mostly just Wrath hehe😍😍😍
And after that ending omggggg I can already tell the 2nd book is going to be even better!!! Especially with where it’s going to be taking place.😏
Aghhhh now to wait. My least favourite word. still haven’t given up on getting my demon prince btw
I don’t know about you. But ever since the first day of school started, I’ve been counting down the days until summer break again.😢 I hate this.
Being forced to learn a whole course in 2 months is not fun.😭😭😭 Nobody wants to cram all of physics and computer science in that time frame!!! I just want this quadmester to be done already😓.
The good thing is that I managed to get in some of my TBR before school began on the 15th, so at least this month wasn’t wasted!😆
4 – 4.5 stars!!!
3 – 3.5 stars!!!
I found some new favourites!!! Although, while they were favourite…. did the authors have to end it in the worst cliffhanger possible?!?!😭😭
Blood & Honey definitely killed me with that terrible ending (people who read…you know what I’m talking about💔).
OMG and A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire is one of the best booksI’ve read this year and I’m so happy JLA is such a fast writer, because I don’t think I could survive waiting more than a year after that ending.😣😨
And then there’s me finally catching up to the ACOTAR fandom after finishing ACOWAR (which I loved) and ACOFAS (which was….okay). By the end of this series, Azriel, Cassian, AND Lucien better get the happiness they deserve.🔥🥺
This was honestly a pretty good month for me—well, before school started and all. I highly doubt that I’ll be able to get in as much in October as I was able to in September xD.
Who knows? Maybe my teachers will be nice enough to give me that free time🤣 (unlikely)
Many thanks to Netgalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for sharing this ARC in exchange for an honest review. All quotes in this review are subject to change upon release date.
Hold up. Did it seriously just end like that?!?!?😤
It seems that I’m on a streak of cliffhangers and it’s not fun.😢
But wow, Legendborn was an amazing Arthurian retelling. There’s no doubt that I absolutely love the tv show, Merlin, and seeing that this book was based off of the legend……well, I just HAD to read it.😏
I loved the Black representation that was shown here and I think this might be my first book with a Black MC. I know, I know, shame on me.🤦♀️ But at least I was lucky enough to have Legendborn being my first book with one and it was soooo good😍
We have our MC, 16-year old Bree Matthews, who has just recently dealt with the passing of her mother. To escape her hometown and it’s memories of her mother, Bree and her best friend, Alice, go off to an early college program for bright high schoolers at the University of North Carolina located in Chapel Hill.
The plan seems perfect—that is, until Bree discovers something abnormal her first day there. More specifically, she witnesses demons attacking and a boy in her school, Selwyn Kane, use…….
From there, she learns that that particular magic is called aether and there’s a whole other race of people called Legendborns who protect humanity by eliminating the Shadowborn (basically demons) and are descendants of King Arthur & his knights.
And then of course, there’s the Knights of the Round Table⚔️
Bree was a really cool character. I loved how she always stood up to the bullies she had to deal with and the insults that were directed at her. Bree always said whatever came to mind haha something I can’t imagine doing xD. She was such a funny character, too and her her friendship was Alice was really too although she didn’t appear as much as I thought she would.🤔
Still, their conversations were pretty funny.😂
“Nick says I’ve got to keep it secret, keep it safe.” “Did you just Lord of the Rings me?” “Nope.” I grin. “I just Fellowship of the Ringed you.”
Then there’s Nick, the handsome and perfect student, that is lives nearby on campus. Hmmmm. It’s not that there’s anything wrong with him, but I just don’t really like him.🤷♀️
Instead, I have my eyes on a certain dark haired and golden eyed boy.😏 Sel was such an intriguing character and I really want to know more about him in the next book. (Hehe I’ve always had a thing for those tall, dark, and broody characters xD)
Ooo and another thing I loved was how close to reality this book was. Legendborn have to worry about leading their normal lives all while making sure they do their job and keeping everything in the Order a secret from their loved ones. If they dare reveal any secrets……well, I’ll let you find out for yourselves once you read this.😉
Also, Bree had to deal with racist comments and people, but still kept her head held high and in defiance to those who dared trying to insult her. I love that girl ~ such an inspiration to others.💕
Legendborn was so captivating, I didn’t even realize I was on the last page until I reached a blank.😢 The only reason it lost a star was because there was the insta-love and it felt pretty slow in the beginning, but eventually I got really into it.
Ahhh I can’t wait for the next book! If this isn’t on your TBR already, then I must tell you to do it NOW. You won’t regret it. (At least, I’m mostly sure you won’t xD)
I can’t wait too see what Tracy Deonn writes next. (Although I do feel a love triangle brewing up in the next book, but maybe I’m wrong)
