My heart is filled with so much love and happiness for Kostas and Galene๐Ÿฅบ

Also, I never imagined that I’d actually like the Olympians??? I shan’t ever get tired of Greek Mythology.

I am the daughter of Poseidon, God of Seas.
I will save my friends. I will clear my name.
I will tame the sea.

Here lies Mount Olympusโ€”home of the Greek Gods where they live under rule of the Olympians in peace. Not all of the gods are immortal, though. Each of them must prove their worth to be able to gain immortality, this being done by taking the Immortality Trial. Pass and you are granted immortalityโ€”fail, and you must wait another 10 years before taking the test again.

Galene, daughter of Poseidon, has prepared all her life to prove her worth and loyalty, especially after the actions of her brother, Chrysander, years before. However, unfortunate incidents occur eventually leading up to a vicious attack on Mount Olympus that has everyone believing Galene to be the perpetrator. With this, comes her exile from Olympus and the journey amongst friends to uncover the truth and prove Galene’s innocence.

“I am worthy of being a deity.”

The story followed four POVs and I really liked how distinct their personalities were. Galene is my favourite of the four like she’s the quiet type of strong and her character was done spectacularly. And while at times her loyalty towards certain beings seemed foolish, I had to admire it a lot. Even being banished from Mount Olympus, she still felt loyal to the very gods who exiled her. Just wow. I would despise them and look forward to revenge. now what does that say about me?

Also, she’s the daughter of Poseidon??? One of my favourite Olympians ahh so how could I not love her?? Apollo will forever remain my #1 favourite

“Because I love you, and someone needed to stand up for you.”

Iyana, daughter of Zeus, cares so much for her friends, I adore her loyalty and love for Galene like its’ seriously just so sweet. Her stubbornness too when she’d be facing gods she knows are way stronger her like wow I could never. The way she feels like she’s useless, especially with the added pressure of being Zeus’s daughter yet not having much of his powersโ€ฆ its so sad watching her despair over this. There were moments where she’s annoy me but overall her character development was done really well.

Braxtos, the son of Apollo, was probably my least favourite of the gang. He annoyed me at times, but he also had his admirable moments. There wasn’t really anything that stood out about him. He was just there for me, I guess.

“Everything is a game.”

Kostas, the son of Hermes, is just perfect. First, I mean he’s the God of Games, so how cool is that??? And he’s always trying to lift the mood up when everyone’s acting all depressed, it’s so sweet omg. Also, the way Kostas is literally the only reasonable god among the groupโ€”I guess that’s what happens when you can read others’ emotions๐Ÿ‘€

Okay but Kostas and Galene?? my hearttt they’re so adorable omg I adore those two; I was literally shipping them so hard throughout the story. THEY’RE SO CUTE. The wholesome interactions and Kostas flirting with Galene- * screaming * * extreme fangirling * I’m in love.

So sad that this is a standalone because I won’t be seeing anymore sweet moments between the two ๐Ÿ˜ญ There will never be enough Kostene (?) me attempting at a ship name scenes.

The other bond I loved here was the one between Iyana and Galene omg their friendship was so heartwarming ahhh and the one between Kostas and Braxtos?? * chef’s kiss * Kostas punching Braxtos will forever remain one of my favourite scenes. True friendship indeed.๐Ÿ˜Œ

I really should’ve been able to guess who the culprit was behind framing Galene for the incident at Mount Olympus but my brain really doesn’t like to work when the answer is so obvious smh.

Honestly, I still can’t believe the fatherly love I saw from some of the Olympians, especially from both Poseidon and Zeus towards their children like??? I mean, they were still jerks of course, but they were also actually so sweet๐Ÿฅบ Really suspicious if you ask me. I’m not used to this kindness hmmm. But I do really love them โค

Again, I wish this wasn’t a standalone because I want more of these characters sobs but The Immortal Games had a beautiful and heartwarming conclusion that definitely has me satisfied. The only reason this didn’t get 5 stars was because it took awhile to get really engaged with the story and there were some scenes that dragged on a little, but other than that, I loved it!

And now I feel like rereading the Percy Jackson seriesโ€ฆ

Red Winter (Red Winter Trilogy, #1) by Annette Marie | Review // ft. me screaming about a very underrated series!!

Emi is the kamigakari. In a few short months, her life as a mortal will end and her new existence as the human host of a goddess will begin. But she saved his life, and until his debt is paid, he is hers to command-whether she wants him or not. On the day they meet, everything Emi believes comes undone, swept away like snow upon the winter wind. For the first time, she wants to change her fate-but how can she erase a destiny already wrought in stone? Against the power of the gods, Shiro is her only hope… and hope is all she has left.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

i never thought it was possible for me to love this more than i did the first time, but it is.

best Japanese mythology based, slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers book i’ve ever read๐Ÿฅบ

this trilogy is so underrated and that’s totally unacceptable. it deserves all the love. Like it has almost everyone’s favourite trope, enemies-to-lovers , AND it’s based off of Japanese mythology which I’ve barely seen in the book world.

it breaks my heart seeing how only about 6.5k ppl have read this sobs it deserves more recognition, this beautiful book. (altho, my love may be a tiny bit biased since I love Japanese culture so much BUT ANYWAYS)

trust me or maybe dont, the beginning is pretty slow, but once you reach around the 20% mark (chapter 7), it gets really good. the world building also may be a little confusing with all the terms, although you get used to it throughout the story (there’s also a glossary at the back of the book).

it’s funny, i actually struggled with the beginning during my first read, yet with this reread i didn’t mind the slow start at all and loved everything. the banter between Emi and Shiro is amazing and being introduced to my bby Yumei๐Ÿฅบ i cant not reread the rest of the series now that i’ve read this. I need more.

โ€œBecause you are more to me now. Because you keep secrets like a kami and Iโ€™m curious what you hide. Because you are lonely and scared and I donโ€™t understand why. Because you trust me when you know you shouldnโ€™t. Because I believe you when you say you will keep your word.โ€

Emi is the kamigakari — destined to become the kami (goddess), Amaterasu’s, human host. As the kamigakari, Emi must remain pure both physically and mentally lest she be unable to receive the kami’s power and spirit.

No impure thoughts or urges, being restricted to what she can eat (it must all be healthy), having nobody of the opposite gender even touch her, and moreโ€ฆ ah, what a sad life. imagine not being able to eat pizza shudder the horror

The life she has feels complete to Emiโ€ฆ until she stumbles across something that changes everything. And with that, it all starts — she meets Shiro, a suspicious shape-shifting kitsune (a fox yokai) who seems to be more than is shown. Yokai are spirits that are closely tied to nature and walk upon the Earth — they’re also known to be monsters or demons.

But Shiro, my love, is only the most amazing, swoon-worthy, and flirty yokai I know. The way I lived for his scenes with Emi๐Ÿฅบ i cant-

the question isโ€ฆ can you trust him? what does Shiro truly want? there must be some ulterior motive, right? this journey of trust and love throughout the trilogy is so, so beautiful. even if there was no plot, i would read this all just for these three <33

Yumei, aka the Tengu is also another yokai Emi meets. He’s very cold and annoyed often by Emi and Shiro hehe but secretly he cares๐Ÿ˜ or does he Also, he’s very very sus. He doesn’t appear as much as Shiro, but in the next two books, Yumei shall shine more and make me fall even more in love with him. I still say there should be a spin-off for Yumei๐Ÿฅบ im not giving up on that.

โ€œDonโ€™t forget me, Shiro,โ€ she said hoarsely. โ€œYouโ€™re not allowed to forget me.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ll forget me someday, little miko.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll never forget you,โ€ she told him. โ€œIโ€™ll remember you to my last day.โ€

โ€œDo you promise?โ€

Her heart gave an odd little flutter. โ€œYes, I promise.โ€

why do i keep doing this to myself

ALSO, shoutout to Katsuo for being such a kind-hearted and sweet friend to Emi <33

i will never stop loving this series. and this is only the first book, so i can only imagine how amazing it’s going to to be rereading the next two which are 10000 times better. althoโ€ฆ i’m scared to get my heartbroken, but that’s inevitable ยฏ_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ

so ready for some more pain loveโœŒ

(also the art i posted above are only just a few of many illustrations in this book. ahhh another reason to read this)

The Dragon Republic (The Poppy War, #2) by R.F. Kuang | Review

The searing follow-up to 2018โ€™s most celebrated fantasy debut โ€“ THE POPPY WAR.

In the aftermath of the Third Poppy War, shaman and warrior Rin is on the run: haunted by the atrocity she committed to end the war, addicted to opium, and hiding from the murderous commands of her vengeful god, the fiery Phoenix. Her only reason for living is to get revenge on the traitorous Empress who sold out Nikan to their enemies.

With no other options, Rin joins forces with the powerful Dragon Warlord, who has a plan to conquer Nikan, unseat the Empress, and create a new Republic. Rin throws herself into his war. After all, making war is all she knows how to do.

But the Empress is a more powerful foe than she appears, and the Dragon Warlordโ€™s motivations are not as democratic as they seem. The more Rin learns, the more she fears her love for Nikan will drive her away from every ally and lead her to rely more and more on the Phoenixโ€™s deadly power. Because there is nothing she wonโ€™t sacrifice for her country and her vengeance.

The sequel to R.F. Kuangโ€™s acclaimed debut THE POPPY WAR, THE DRAGON REPUBLIC combines the history of 20th-century China with a gripping world of gods and monsters, to devastating effect.

*anguished screaming*

Never have I wanted so many people to die in the most painful way possible, especially AFTER WHAT THEY DID *sobs*

I want to die๐Ÿ™‚

And I have nobody to blame but myselfโ€”oH WAIT NO I BLAME KUANG.

The way she quite literally ripped out my heart and shred it into pieces…this hollow, broken feelingโ€”like the world’s ending and nobody sees it but me…

is this what death feels like?

I may sound overdramatic to some which is literally me in all my reviews but trust me when I say that this author is a monster haha that rhymed :’ )

But she’s also a brilliant, worship-worthy monster. I’m both screaming in rage and crying in awe because of the sheer perfection of The Dragon Republic. Everythingโ€”and I mean E V E R Y T H I N G was just a masterpiece. If possible, she made me love all the characters even more and the plot…ohmygod I love it. I love this. I love everything.

And the way she made me actually question who was truly evil. What defines ‘evil’? Are some actions justified because the reasoning behind it is good? What is considered ‘good’?

Everyone has their own story in the end, and if one does not know it, you’ll never be able to decide whether they’re evil or not. And even then, it’s based on our perception of good and evil to determine this.

I love the way Kuang made me think and how deep she went into this. It’s not all black and white. It’s very, very gray and nobody is as they seem to be.

I went into this with the generic thinking of good/evil and came out with a completely different opinion on this. I am once again shooketh.

…and broken, dead, and destroyed. *sobs*

Kudos to Kuang for turning me into an emotional mess.

โ€œPeople will seek to use you or destroy you.
If you want to live, you must pick a side. So do not shirk from war, child. Do not flinch from suffering.
When you hear screaming, run toward it.โ€

Oh Rin, my beautiful power-hungry, stubborn, and vicious anti-hero whom I’m very much in love with. Sure, she makes a lot of questionable decisions and has many, many flaws, but she still manages to get back up and not fall to othersโ€ฆfor the most part.

Also, where in The Poppy War , she was considered to be very selfish, here Rin learned to put the fate of her country before herโ€”even if it meant losing her pride and dignity and ugh I love her. It frustrated me that she was forced to doโ€ฆcertain things because of some repulsive monsters who deserve to die *cough* Petra *cough*. i would never

โ€œShe had a weapon now. She wasn’t defenseless against him. She’d never been defenseless. She had just never thought to look.โ€

And then Rin’s obsession with Atlan Trengsinโ€ฆI actually can’t say it was super annoying because I could understand the why behind it. I mean, that’s what added onto her character growth eventually, and in a way Atlan was such a key figure to everyone, but especially to Rin.

The growth in Rin is spot on, and with how this ended I can’t wait for Rin to destroy everyone.

I๐Ÿ‘AM๐Ÿ‘READY๐Ÿ‘FOR๐Ÿ‘CHAOS๐Ÿ‘ but not for heartbreak

โŠฑ โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€ {โ‹…. โˆ .โ‹…} โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€ โŠฐ

“Do you love him?”
“Yes, more than anyone else in the world.”

Every time I see a scene like this, I break apart. Kitay and Rin’s friendship is what makes me feel alive. He doesn’t hold back on the truth from Rin and tells it how it is if she’s done something bad. All they go through, they do it together and have such a deep and strong bond — I want to cry.

And with something that beautiful during war and written by Kuang herselfโ€ฆit’s not going to last long BECAUSE SHE’S EVIL.

I pray nothing happens, but by the way everyone’s been coming out of The Burning Godโ€ฆahahahaha nervous laughter

I still have hope though. Kitay must survive. He must be happy. If not, I will die even tho im already dead

War has changed Kitay so much and that’s definitely not surprising, but how much it’s changed him is heartbreaking, but also amazing. He can talk down to generals and make them listen to him, but he’s suffered so much — it kills me :((

โŠฑ โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€ {โ‹…. โˆ .โ‹…} โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€โ”€ โŠฐ

โ€œIโ€™m scared Iโ€™ll hurt you. Adlaga wonโ€™t be the end. I canโ€™t make the Phoenix go away and I canโ€™t make it stop andโ€”โ€

โ€œBecause youโ€™re new to this,โ€ Baji interrupted. He sounded so kind. How could he be so kind? โ€œWeโ€™ve all been there. They want to use your body all the time. And you think youโ€™re on the brink of madness, you think that this moment is going to be when you finally snap, but itโ€™s not.โ€

โ€œHow do you know that?โ€

โ€œBecause it gets easier every time. Eventually you learn to exist on the precipice of insanity.โ€

โ€œBut I canโ€™t promise I wonโ€™tโ€”โ€

โ€œYou wonโ€™t. And weโ€™ll go after Daji again. And weโ€™ll keep doing it, over and over, as many times as it takes, until sheโ€™s dead. Tyr didnโ€™t give up on us. Weโ€™re not giving up on you. This is why the Cike exists.โ€

All of that should be enough to tell you how much I love the Cike — especially Baji and Ramsasobs they’re so sweet and hilarious.

Baji, the idiotic, lovable shaman who constantly makes dirty jokes and Ramsa, everyone’s cinnamon roll who’s obsessed with explosives.

Basically my favourite characters, even though they didn’t appear as much as they did in The Poppy War. My heart is so full of love.

Even Chaghanโ€ฆlike wow, I actually despised him in the previous book, but now I see everything in a new light . Chaghan is in so much pain :(( and he doesn’t know what to do with this and feels all alone. I really can’t wait to see him and Rin team up next book (hopefullyโ€ฆ?).

Now, I’ve stayed silent long enough.

๐Ÿ›‘SPOILERS for TPW and up to chapter 6 of TDR๐Ÿ›‘ DO NOT GO PAST THIS IF YOU HAVENT READ THAT. (Skip to the bottom.)

Why was it that whenever she looked at Nezha, she wanted to either kill him or kiss him? He made her either furious or deliriously happy. The one thing he did not make her feel was secure.

With him there was no neutrality, no in between. She loved him or she hated him, but she didnโ€™t know how to do both.

Same, Rin, same. I wasn’t surprised that Nezha was alive because Twitter and it’s โœจspoilersโœจ but ahhhhh I was so happy to see him again at first.

However, this boy is a very complicated human being, and of course that’s not a bad thing, but I both hate and love him. As of now, that hatred is overpowering the love, so ahahaha who knows ยฏ_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ

Even after what The Third Poppy War did to him, he’s still my beautiful boy who truly believes in a world of peace and happinessโ€ฆso optimistic — how he can still act like this? I have no idea. his parents are trash and deserve to be thrown in hell

Oh, and the romance that blossomed between Nezha and Rin was so sweet and heart-wrenching asdfgfhgfdsagds my heart is dying because of everything they said to each other. I want to strangle the two. tHe AnGsT

“Burn them all, Rin.”

I think that says something about me.

But this deep burning rage I feel after everything that’s happenedโ€ฆshow them no mercy , Rin. Make them suffer . MAKE THEM PAY.

The Poppy War (The Poppy War, #1) by R.F. Kuang | Review

When Rin aced the Kejuโ€”the Empire-wide test to find the most talented youth to learn at the Academiesโ€”it was a shock to everyone: to the test officials, who couldnโ€™t believe a war orphan from Rooster Province could pass without cheating; to Rinโ€™s guardians, who believed theyโ€™d finally be able to marry her off and further their criminal enterprise; and to Rin herself, who realized she was finally free of the servitude and despair that had made up her daily existence. That she got into Sinegardโ€”the most elite military school in Nikanโ€”was even more surprising.

But surprises arenโ€™t always good.

Because being a dark-skinned peasant girl from the south is not an easy thing at Sinegard. Targeted from the outset by rival classmates for her color, poverty, and gender, Rin discovers she possesses a lethal, unearthly powerโ€”an aptitude for the nearly-mythical art of shamanism. Exploring the depths of her gift with the help of a seemingly insane teacher and psychoactive substances, Rin learns that gods long thought dead are very much aliveโ€”and that mastering control over those powers could mean more than just surviving school.

For while the Nikara Empire is at peace, the Federation of Mugen still lurks across a narrow sea. The militarily advanced Federation occupied Nikan for decades after the First Poppy War, and only barely lost the continent in the Second. And while most of the people are complacent to go about their lives, a few are aware that a Third Poppy War is just a spark away . . .

Rinโ€™s shamanic powers may be the only way to save her people. But as she finds out more about the god that has chosen her, the vengeful Phoenix, she fears that winning the war may cost her humanity . . . and that it may already be too late.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

“Warfare was about absolutes. Us or them. Victory or defeat. There was no middle way. There was no mercy. No surrender.”

I-I’ve never been so terrified to continue a series as I am now.

โ€œIf you hold the fate of the country in your hands, if you have accepted your obligation to your people, then your life ceases to be your own.โ€

I am in love with this book. These characters. Ohmygod who knew the beginning of this book could be so vastly different from the end???

I literally cannot wrap my head around this book. Going into The Poppy War, I knew it would be set into some sort of deadly school, but wowโ€ฆI am shooketh. I understand the hype.

โ€œShe had bribed a teacher. She had stolen opium. She had burned herself, lied to her foster parents, abandoned her responsibilities at the store, and broken a marriage deal.

And she was going to Sinegard.โ€

Fang Runin (aka Rin) has to be one of the most fleshed out characters ever created. She’s totally an anti-hero and I am sooo here for it.

Typical YA heroines want power solely to protect someone or something they love/care deeply forโ€ฆ

Rin wants power simply because . . . she craves it.

Not that she wouldn’t use it to protect those she cares for, but she mainly desires more power to take down those who have belittled her, and most of all . . . to satisfy her anger by getting revenge.

You know usually, it’s supposed to be “don’t go down the path of vengeance and blah blah”, but this girl ignores all that and I LOVE ITof course that’s not good at all, but hey, being good is overrated

Also, Rin is said to be based off of Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender AND I CAN SEE THAT. I will never stop gushing about Rin’s character.

Her obsession with power and the questionable choices she makesโ€ฆdamn it scares me to think about what she’s going to be doing in the upcoming books. It’s nice to finally have a character who isn’t all goody-two-shoes and does the ‘honorable’ thing. wow this really isnt making me look good

โ€œThey were monsters!” Rin shrieked. “They were not human!”

“Have you ever considered” he said slowly “that that was exactly what they though of us?โ€

Rin’s relationship with Kitayโ€ฆit’s so beautiful I want to cry. Their friendship is amazing and literally every time terrible news would spread, I’d fear for my life that something happened to him. Literally.

From the beginning of this book, when he was right away there for Rin while she was being bullied by others for being dark-skinned and a peasantโ€”I fell in love with him.

Oh, which reminds me: I love how Kuang didn’t stick to stereotypical Asian image of all of them being white and black haired. I love that so much, and I will never stop loving how she included that.๐Ÿฅบ

But anyways, this sweet and adorable cinnamon roll better not be harmed in the upcoming books or I will rage and die in misery. DON’T HURT KITAY, OKAY?
meanwhile everyone who’s already read this series is probably laughing at me

Kitay waggled his eyebrows. โ€œOne might say youโ€™ve been obsessed with Nezha.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t be disgusting.โ€

โ€œYou are. Youโ€™re always asking me about him.โ€

โ€œBecause Iโ€™m curious,โ€ Rin said. โ€œSunzi says to know your enemy.โ€

โ€œFuck Sunzi. You just think heโ€™s pretty.โ€

Rin tossed the chessboard at his head.

Loved this part so much because it was so hilarious.๐Ÿ˜‚ I must say that usually I’m a sucker for romance in all books, but I was totally okay with there being no romance here. It honestly probably would’ve ruined this book if there was.

Nezha is amazing, and if there was just a tiny bit romance in the next two books I wouldn’t complain๐Ÿ˜ And even if there wasn’t I still wouldn’t complainโ€”I know I’ll love TDR and TBG either wayโ€ฆeven though they’ll probably destroy me cries

I probably would’ve hated Nezha in the beginning if I hadn’t seen others love him so much. But honestly from the first scene where Rin met him, I adored him xD that probably says something about me too

He was definitely a jerk to Rin, but the way so much changed throughout the novelโ€ฆit was literally so sweet and I need more Nezha and I won’t stop demanding for more Nezha. #MORENEZHA

Ahhh there are so many more characters to talk about, but this review will never end if I keep going. I’ll just say that SO MUCH HAPPENS. I seriously forgot that this was only a debut for a TRILOGY. I’m in awe. Just wowโ€ฆamazing.

Now the only reason why I didn’t give this 5 stars is because around the middle (part 2) was when it got a little slow, and I struggled slightly to get past thatโ€”but that’s probably just a me thing.

It might’ve been because of the new characters/settings introduced and me missing Kitay/Nezha/everyone else.

Other than that, Part 1 got me hooked right away and was a beautiful introduction to this book, while Part 3 was so dark and epicโ€ฆand heartbreaking of course :’ )

“Her destiny had not been written in the stars, or in the registers of the Pantheon.”

“She was no victim of destiny.”

This is one of those times where I basically cannot trust the author at all judging by what others are saying. And with only reading the first book and almost getting a panic attackโ€ฆ

I am so not ready to have my heart destroyed in the next book.

Sentinel (Covenant, #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout | Review

Rating: โญโญโญโญโญ

“This is everyone’s fight. Because it’s everyone’s future.”

JLA has shattered my heart into pieces again๐Ÿ’”

Aghhh I knew what was coming, but stillโ€ฆ it hurts.

Gonna say it right now: If JLA ever repeats an ending like this in any of her future books, Iโ€”

I don’t think I’ll be able to survive it.๐Ÿ’€

Other than that, the Covenant series will forever hold a special place in my heart. (Although I’m pretty sure I could say that with almost all her books haha)

I just love how JLA was able to evolve this whole story in a way I could’ve never imagined going into this series.

Who knew it’d go from just any other teenager (at least in this world) dealing with aether-sucking monsters & forbidden love to a more complicated full-out war involving the Greek Gods and fate of all realms.

^Wow, it really sucks being Alex.๐Ÿ˜“๐Ÿ˜‚

Now before I go further, I must tell all of you who don’t already have this on your tbr TO READ THIS SERIES!!!๐Ÿฅบ

๐Ÿ›‘There may be mild spoilers in the quotes below!!!๐Ÿ›‘

โ€œWow.โ€ Deacon elbowed Luke. โ€œThis would be awkward if it werenโ€™t so entertaining. Itโ€™s like watching our parentsโ€”โ€

โ€œShut up, Deacon,โ€ both Aiden and I snapped at the same time.

โ€œSee!โ€ Deacon grinned. โ€œTheyโ€™re like peas and carrots.โ€

Luke turned to him slowly. โ€œDid you just quote Forrest Gump?โ€

Omg I just love Deacon so much.๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚ He constantly tries to liven up the mood when everyone else is all doom and gloom. Beware of long car rides with Deacon, though xD.

Haha even Marcus couldn’t stand it.๐Ÿคฃ

I laughed. โ€œIโ€™m not betting against that. On the way here, I thought Marcus was going to strangle him.โ€

โ€œI wouldโ€™ve if he hadnโ€™t fallen asleep,โ€ Marcus said, coming out from behind us. โ€œOr at the very least, I wouldโ€™ve knocked him out.โ€

^But we still love him.๐Ÿฅฐ

The Olympians also made many more appearances during this time, like:

โœฆ Athena (a.k.a. “The Goddess of Depressing Facts” by Alex),

โœฆ Hades (a.k.a. “The God with the British Accent” by Alex),

โœฆ Persephone (a.k.a. “The Goddess Who Plays Mario Kart With Caleb” by Alex)

โœฆ Artemis (a.k.a. “The Goddess Who Tried to Hit Up on Aiden” by Alex),

โœฆ Apollo of course (a.k.a. “The God of Impeccable Timing Who Also Needs a Bell” by Alex).

There were some others, but those 5 are the only ones I can think of who actually made contact with Alex (and she obviously had amazing encounters with them all hehe xD).

โ€œGods were like possums.

You could go your whole life without seeing one, but once you found one of them, you found the whole freaky family.โ€

^She’s right. After Apollo, they kept coming right after each other.๐Ÿ˜† And it appears to be that the gods have a huge obsession with leather pants because “they make it look good.” sigh Them and their big egos.๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜‚

Finally, there’s Alex & Aiden๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ I can’t believe I never thought of coming up with a ship name!!! Alaiden? Aldex? No no never mind forget you even saw that.๐Ÿ˜ฌ
Those two came a long way from what they once wereโ€”especially Alex. I love those two so much.๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ’ž

โ€œHe was my strength when I needed him to be, my friend when I needed someone to talk me down, my equal in a world where by law I would always be less than him, and honest to gods, he was the love of my life.โ€

Apparently, The Return is a spin-off of the Covenant series I did not know about that features Seth and some other girl as the MCsโ€ฆ..

I think I’ll probably only read it one day for Alex & Aiden.๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ’–

โ€œYou know what that means?โ€ I stared into those silver eyes. I had an infinite number of moments like this ahead of me to share with Aiden.

โ€œTheyโ€™re going to tell stories about us.โ€ Aiden lowered his head, kissing me softly, deeply, and so lovingly that tears pricked my eyes.

โ€œThey already are.โ€

Elixir (Covenant, #3.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout | Review

My rating: โญโญโญโญโญ

โ€œLove is the only thing more powerful than Fate.โ€

My heart is in pain.๐Ÿฅบ

Aidenโ€™s POV after what happened in Deityโ€ฆโ€ฆ.the guilt is clawing at him.
Curse you, [redacted].๐Ÿ˜–

Now here are some scenes that should be illegal with how much pain it caused me:๐Ÿ˜ญ

โ€œI feel it in here,” she said, placing her hand against her chest and then against her stomach, “and here. Itโ€™s like thereโ€™s not enough air or room inside me. That I mayโ€ฆ burst out of my skin or drown in it, and that wouldnโ€™t be a bad thing. I donโ€™t know why I feel this way, but I always haveโ€ฆ and will.” She tipped her chin up and her entire face was a rosy color. “Itโ€™s you. Iโ€ฆ I love you.โ€

Face pale and lips trembling, her brows puckered. โ€œIโ€™m so sorry. Aiden, I loโ€”โ€ A scream tore from her, and she arched clear off the mattress, eyes widening.
My heart stopped. โ€œAlex?โ€
โ€œI canโ€™tโ€ฆ itโ€™s everywhere. Itโ€ฆ hurts. Aiden, pleaseโ€ฆ make it stopโ€ฆ pleaseโ€ฆโ€ She slumped back, whimpering and twisting, thrashing her head back and forth.

โ€œApollo had changed Hyacinth into a flower to protect him. I would give Alex back control so she could protect herself instead of making the decision for her. That’s how we were different from the gods.โ€

Yup, JLA loves to torture my poor heart. And itโ€™ll still be getting worse from here.

The first time I read this series, I hadnโ€™t read this novella and I was super confused with some things in Apollyon . I highly recommend reading this before the 4th book!!!

I mean, itโ€™s also Aidenโ€™s POV so who wouldnโ€™t want to get the chance to read that?!?!๐Ÿ˜†

Hehe this also helped with my never-to-be-finished reading challenge๐Ÿ˜ˆ

My rating: โญโญโญโญโญ

โ€œSometimes you have to know when to let hope go.โ€

ASDFGHJKL this has got to be one of the worst cliffhangers ever.๐Ÿ˜ฐ๐Ÿ˜“

The betrayalโ€ฆ..The painโ€ฆ..The fearโ€ฆ..The LOVE๐Ÿฅบ

Seriously though, each book in the series just keeps getting better and better.๐Ÿ’– I love these guys so much, although some people have made someโ€ฆโ€ฆ.questionable choices and it’s so sad.๐Ÿ˜ฃ

โ€œThat simple act stole my breath, my heart. But even as he pulled away, I realized that he couldn’t steal something he already had.โ€

Omg how sweet is that?!?!๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ Alex has changed so much from the first book, but the one thing that never changed was her love for Aiden. Aghhhh I’m about to start crying now.๐Ÿฅบ Their love for each other makes my heart swell with emotion. She’s had to deal with so much death (like Caleb’s) and guilt, but now she’s learned from most of her mistakes and aghhh just the growthโ€ฆ..I love it.๐Ÿ’ž

โ€œI canโ€™t keep pretending that I donโ€™t want this โ€“ that I donโ€™t want you. I canโ€™t. Not after what happened to you. It thoughtโ€ฆ I thought Iโ€™d lost you, Alex, forever. And I wouldโ€™ve lost everything. You are my everything.โ€

AHHH AIDEN!!!! I LOVE AIDEN SO MUCH๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ He’s the sweetest guy ever and JLA always manages to do it perfectly.๐Ÿฅบ Aiden loves Alex and always keeps the promises he makes for her (unlike some people). Omg and every time Aiden calls Alex “Agapi mou” โ€ฆโ€ฆmy heart just melts.๐Ÿคง๐Ÿฅฐ

Haha but the fights between Seth and Aiden over Alex were priceless.๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿคฃ At one point even Leon and Seth had a go at it. It was way too funny xD.

He sneered. โ€œYou want to fight me now, in your
true form?โ€
โ€œI will fight you in any form, you little punk-ass brat.โ€
Seth laughed. โ€œYou canโ€™t kill me.โ€
โ€œBut I can beat the living snot out of you.โ€

I love Leon.๐Ÿ˜† He’s such an awesome guy. And to Alex, he’s know as “The King of Impeccable Timing”, which I definitely agree with xD. He has the worst timing with certain moments, but you could also say that those appearances prevent someโ€ฆโ€ฆdecisions.๐Ÿ˜‚

Oh that reminds me. Speaking of people with bad decisionsโ€ฆ..Seth๐Ÿ˜ž. I was never a Team Seth to begin with, but some of the things he did weren’t really good. HE CAN’T SEE THAT STUPID LUCIEN IS USING HIM!!!๐Ÿ˜ซ๐Ÿ˜ค And nowโ€ฆ.well things aren’t really looking that good.๐Ÿ˜“ But I was happy with what happened to Tellyโ€”he had that coming and also, I can’t believe that his name means “Best”.๐Ÿ˜ถ The only thing he’s “best” at is pissing me off.๐Ÿ˜ค

There were some others that appeared much more, too. Like Deacon, whom I also just adore.๐Ÿ˜ His parts were hilarious xD.

โ€œYeah, I’m great. Nothing like witnessing a death match between gods when I’m trying to get some Cheetos.

^Poor Deaconโ€ฆ..he just wanted to eat his Cheetos.๐Ÿ˜ข

The appearances of some of the Greek Gods was probably my fav part (that and a certain 2 people finally being together.๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅบ). Apollo of course, is the funniest and coolest God of all of them hehe. I can’t wait to see more of his scenesโ€”Oh and his poofing.๐Ÿ˜†

Sadly, there won’t be many fun times with these guys becauseโ€ฆโ€ฆ.

โ€œEver since Iโ€™ve met you, Iโ€™ve wanted to break every rule.โ€

Oh, this boy.๐Ÿฅบ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿคง๐Ÿ’–

Tell me that line above doesn’t just make you swoon? (Or maybe it’s just me hehe)

After finding out that she herself was fated to be the second Apollyon and having to kill her mother-gone-daimon, to say Alex is feelingโ€ฆโ€ฆ.alot, is an understatement. Nightmares have plagued her for weeks and the events from the previous book have traumatized her.

To add on to that, practically everyone at the Covenant despises Alex, believing her to be responsible for daimon attacks in the summer. Only a few friends know the truth and one of those ‘friends’ is Seth. Good thing she has his to keep her compnayโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆor is it?๐Ÿ˜

Oh also school’s started and Instructor Romvi totally loves making a fool out of Alex during training๐Ÿ˜•โ€”so not cool (I hate that guy sm๐Ÿ˜ค), but I mean it’s not really that surprising considering most pure-bloods are like that.๐Ÿ˜ถ

BUT Aiden St. Delphi is not most pures. This guy is seriously just one of my all-time-favourite book boyfriends๐Ÿฅฐ(I guess I could say that with almost all of JLA’s male love interests xD). His fierce protectiveness of Alex is so sweet, and yet even if he can be a totally strict rule follower, when he does loosen up a littleโ€ฆ.it’s the best.๐Ÿฅบ Haha and his convos with Alex.๐Ÿคฃ

“I threw an apple at Lea’s face. I fought Guards. I cheated on my trig exam.”
Aiden looked at me, frowning. “You cheated on your math exam?”

^I love how the only thing he was really concerned of from all Alex admitted WAS THAT SHE CHEATED ON HER TRIG EXAM.๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

You’ll probably keep hearing from me for the next few books how much I love Aiden, soooooo prepare hehe.๐Ÿ˜ˆ It was very unfortunate that Aiden didn’t appear as much in this book, although there was A LOT of screen-time (or would it be ‘page-time’๐Ÿค”) for Seth. Seth is cool and all, but my heart already belongs to Aiden, so sorry not sorry๐Ÿ™ˆ.

However, after a ahem certain scene still can’t get over it๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ข, I loved how Seth was always there for Alexโ€”she really did need it. So sad that this is only just the beginning of what Alex has to face.๐Ÿฅบ

I know what’s coming, and it’s not fun.๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ฐ

Half-Blood (Covenant, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout | Review

My rating: โญโญโญโญโญ

“Always beware of the one who needs you. There is always a want behind a need, you see.โ€

Was this extremely similar to Vampire Academy?
Did I still guiltily love it?
Also, yes.๐Ÿ™ˆ๐Ÿฅฐ

Hear me out, though.
Despite this series being considered a total rip-off of Vampire Academy, that’s only just the first two books. After that, JLA really does get into her own world of things and it’s just so amazing.๐Ÿฅบ

Alexandria (a.k.a. Alex) Andros (17 y/o) is just like Roseโ€”the stubborn and reckless girl we all know and love (at least I think we do xD). Here, they live in a world of where the Greek Gods are real and you’re either a pure-blood or half-blood (basically like Moroi or Dhampir).

Alex is of course, a half-blood and with that, they have their own school, the Covenant, for half-bloods like her to train to become Sentinels or Guards and protect the pure-bloods from monsters gone evilโ€”the Strigoi Daimons. It’s either that orโ€ฆ..become a slave to the pure-bloods.๐Ÿ˜ฌ (That’s not good)

After being on the run for 3 years with her mother away from the Covenant, a terrible accident forces Alex to go back, but the thing isโ€ฆ..she’s years behind her classmates, sooo can you guess what happens next?๐Ÿง

Yup, she gets Dimitri Belikov Aiden St. Delphi (20 y/o) to be her instructor for the summer before school begins again. His job is to get Alex caught up and ready to train with the rest of her year and if that doesn’t happenโ€”well, she’s gonna be forced as a slave to pure-bloods and that’s really bad .

Okay, I’m not really making this sound good with all the similarities to VA, but honestly, if you love Vampire Academy and you don’t mind re-reading something super similar, I’d say go for Half-Blood. I think I’d honestly say I loved this more than VA.๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ’ž

I love Alex. And Aidenโ€ฆโ€ฆ..Aiden is the sweet and caring pure-blooded instructor who also has has dimples that Alex just loves (reminds me of someone other two from JLA’s books xD cough Poppy cough Casteel)

It does seem to be that JLA loves her characters having dimples and I totally don’t mind that hehe.๐Ÿ˜ I can’t help but always fall in love with all of her characters, and Aiden is definitely no exception.๐Ÿ˜ Totally swoon-worthy.๐Ÿฅฐ

I’m so sad there’s barely any fanart for this series.๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ˜ญ I really wish I could draw some haha if I had talent, that is.

I’m scared to read the next book because I know what’s coming and I’m not ready for some more heartbreakโ€ฆโ€ฆand that’s just the beginning.๐Ÿ’”
